Hi ladies,

This thread is a continuation, of sorts, of my previous Custom Dress Inquiry thread. Any assistance/thoughts you are able to offer are much appreciated as I''ve been on an emotional rollercoaster trying to figure this whole dress thing out and I need to figure everything out in time to order shortly...

This dress sketch is attempting to combine two dresses by the same designer ... the bodice of one and the skirt of another. The bridal dress company says that they should be able to achieve this no problem (and more importantly ... well within my budget
1.gif
) however, I''m still a little bit nervous as to whether or not I should take it "fully" custom or more modified custom or just look for another dress entirely.

I''ll post pics of the "original" dresses and then a sketch of the "hybrid" (thanks T202!!).

Do you think that the end result will be to die for ... in a good way?

#1859

I love the bodice on this dress

**eta - MUCH prettier in real life, by the way.

#1859

Not really loving the train ... While I am looking for an elaborate cathedral length train of sorts, this doesn''t quite fit the bill, for me. This train sort of just leaves feeling "meh"

CB1859train.jpg

#1804 back

Love the tiered ruffle detailing on this train ... Would prefer it to be longer ...

For me ... The tiered pleat/ruffle is an essential element for my "perfect" dress.

#1804 front

Not loving the bodice of this dress ... the ruffle detail at the bottom is cute though ... I also prefer the trumpet type shape of this skirt to the Aline shape of # 1859.

The Remix!
1859 + 1804

Likey? - Why/Why not? Do you anticipate any difficulty in executing this design??

Hybrid - The back!

This design encompasses many of my "musts" but still achieves glamorous and elegant and has that "Wow" factor, I think ... that is what I am seeking.

The other dress that I like is significantly more expensive than this one would be so I''m struggling with whether or not to take the risk on have these two dresses amalagamted or if I should just go with what is already made and I know that I like the look of???

The details at the hem and on skirt above the train would match the embroidery/beading detail from the bodice and my hope is that this makes the design more cohesive and less like a mish mosh of 2 different dresses.

It''s funny that although I am an active member of our PS community ... I still can''t help but feel a little vulnerable when sharing details that are so important to me but less so to others ...
Thank you, in advance, for taking the time to look and/or share your thoughts.

I think it looks fabulous! I am super jealous that you can draw like that - I couldn''t draw a stick tree to save my life

I don''t know anything about sewing, so I can''t comment on the feasibility of the design, but it is beautiful. I agree that the bottom half of the first dress is not perfect, and I love the second dress. Good work!

Oh Honey ... Thank you kindly but in no way can I take credit.
If I could draw like that, I''m sure that I would be having less difficulty with this process.
The consultant at the bridal shop sketched that up for me so that she could forward it to the bridal dress designer for review so that they could confirm if they were able to do it or not.

I wish I could draw like that too!

Thank you also for the compliment - I''m super pleased that you think it looks fabulous, my fellow September bride.

How fabulous! Another September bride chiming in ... Thank you mrowmrowsmom!! I appreciate it.

I, too, know nothing about sewing but it does help bolster my confidence when people, like yourself, are able to see what I see and concur that the alteration, if possible, will make a beautiful dress more suited to my preferences.

Thank you very much!!

I am going power-shopping on Monday - 3 or 4 bridal houses in the city, in one day, four days before Xmas - yes, I am stark raving mad
2.gif
I am stressing about the dress now, stressing about the body, stressing about getting the body into the dress - arghhhhh!

Only 8 full months before the wedding, I am going to have a meltdown if I can''t find dresses I like on Monday!
23.gif

What a vision you have! I love it. My favorite part is the bodice of the first picture you posted. It''s gorgeous! I haven''t seen a ruffled skirt in real life, but the ones you posted are pretty.

I love the second dress. I actually tried it on at a shop here in Atlanta. Sinc eyou can customize Casablana, they added a crumb catcher to the top to match the bottom. The dress was not my size, but you get the idea; I thought it looked nice. Here is a photo.

so its not the best photoshop... but it helped me visual it better... and i think it will be freaken awesome!!! :-) and the back will totally be TO DIE FOR!!!! :-)

, I love it! Of course, I know nothing about what''s possible and what''s not design-wise, but I think the hybrid is absolutely GORGEOUS! I hope the designer can execute your vision. Good luck and keep us posted.

Honey - you''re such a trip! What a crazy day Monday will be for you ... Crazy but fun, fun, fun! Stop stressing and fingers crossed you will find something that you think is amazing!! How exciting! I wish that I could join you ... You will have a blast! Maybe to help streamline the process, if you haven''t already, you may want to call ahead and let them know what size you anticipate you will need and maybe ask them to pull a couple dresses in your size in different shapes or maybe just ;your preferred shape. This way you will be able to make the most of your allotted time in the salon and get to really appreciate the dresses instead of spending a lot of time looking around if you don''t have any idea as to your preferences as of yet ... after all, what you like may not like you and what you don''t like may look terrific on and change your mind, right? Just a thought.

Best of luck and you know that I am awaiting an update.

Okay, the sketch of the hybrid totally helps! I love it! The bodice is so pretty and the ruffles and tiering on the skirt are really killing me! GOOOORGEOUS!

And bb, good work on the photoshop-it makes it even more obvious that the hybrid totally works!

Oh Zoe - Thanks so much. How sweet you are!! I appreciate it. I''m obsessed with ruffles but the kind that I usually see on the dresses in stores are the kind that do not look great on me ... I''m insisting on having these ruffles so I really hope that they come out pretty.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Hey Mintve - That is very helpful ... Thank you!

I can imagine that that dress looked lovely on you! I do think that the crumbcatcher bustline to balance out the hem is a great idea. If I didn''t love the 1859 bodice so much, may very well have gone that way.

I really, really appreciate you sharing this picture with me ... nothing better than actually seeing something in real life instead of just via the pictures you find online.

You guys are all so fabulous!

BB - You are cracking me up. Thank you for the amazing photoshop job! YOU are freaken awesome.

Your hard work assisted me with visualizing it better as well ... It still doesn''t look quite right considering that the detailing on the top and bottom don''t match, however, I have a better idea that it *might* work. Also, I envision the skirt having more volume. It will be fitted through the hips and then gradually flaring out ...with lots of volume at the bottom where the ruffles will be. The 1804 skirt is a little slimmer than I would like for myself - allover - I like it through the hips but I don''t want it as tight all the way down. I want to be able to dance the night away and not feel confined by the dress.

Does this make sense? Do you think that the skirt that I''m envisioning will work better than what is shown in the photoshop pic? I think that, at the least, it will be more dramatic and I''m all about the drama.
9.gif

By the way - I am so happy that you think it wil lbe great and that you love the back as well. Yay!!! Could it be true ... might this really be ... "the" one?? I''m trying to not get excited as the final pricing for all of these changes/alterations from the original design haven''t come in yet.

tee hee.

So glad you love it! Yayayayayay! It''s horrible not being "design savvvy", isn''t it?! I, of course, without a doubt, will keep you updated. I just hope that I don''t bore anyone with my plight.

Good news is that, yes, the dress designer does believe that they can execute this design. The material would be all satin, which I love, so ... I''m hoping that the real thing will turn out better than I can even imagine.

Thing - Thank you! I know that you are a bit of a fashionista ... the likes of which I can only aspire to so I appreciate your "approval". Thank you! I think that it''s wonderfu lthat I''m not the only one who is digging the tiered ruffling ... I know that it''s going to look dated at some point but .. .whatever ... I''m hoping it will look amazing next year.

If these sketches or ideas remind anyone of dresses that they have seen or ones I may like ... please do share. My search is not yet over. Well ... I don''t think anyways.

YES I totally agree that it being a little more fuller will make it look alot better... I wish I was that good at photshop to do that... but ill try... ive been teaching myself some cool stuff lately on it.. Ill try it tomorrow and see if anything good comes from it... hehehe :-)

I also TOTALLY know what you mean about the trumpet style fit... thats what i loved about the dress i love... because i love mermaid fit... BUT it was kinda hard to sit or what not... BUT not with the dress i loved it was fitted just around my butt area and then it was soo comfortable.. I even practiced dancing in it... I wish I had a better pictture of me in it to show you.... hopefully when i come back from my FI''s parents I am going to try to find a salon that lets me take pics that has it :-)

After seeing the sketch it totally looks like the bridal salon and you are on the same page.. I feel pretty confident that they will do an awesome job for you :-)

Hahaha I definitely approve!

It''s really gorgeous...and when the detailing matches I know it''s going to really be stunning. I love the ruffling and I''m sure it will still look amazing next year! I really do love those ruffles, especially the pleating.

And the way I see it, wedding dresses should be as current/in style/trendy as the bride wants! I figure you get married in a certain year, so you might as well look like that year!

Hi Sparkalicious! I LOVE the ruffles and the idea of customizing your dress to make it everything you want, and I think it is gorgeous. I do, though, notice that the beading doesn''t match between the bodice and right above the ruffles in BB''s excellent photoshop mashup. Given the intricacy of the beading in the bodice, I would like to see some of that in the skirt, too, or at least beading that correlated more.

Definitely go for the custom design. In my opinion, you''re taking the best of the dresses and smooshing them in a way that works. Seeing the photoshop version, I do think you should make a point to emphasize the difference to the designer about letting the skirt be a little fuller.

Ditto, that is one humdinger of a stunning dress I really hope they can make it for, I can''t see why they shouldn''t be able to the dress is going to be STUNNING as will u in it :D.
