So, I've recently been blessed with a gorgeous 1.20 d colour VS1 shining ring with tiny micropave and I'm looking to the experts for advice on how to take care of it. Please answer the following (with reasons if possible).

Do you wear your diamond ring while (yes/no and why):

Washing your hands?
Having a shower?
Washing dishes?
Putting moisturiser on?
Cleaning the house?
Sleeping?
Working?

Any other times you don't wear your diamond ring and why?

Washing your hands? No i don't take my rings off, i figure its also washing the grime off my rings
Having a shower? sometimes I do, I wouldn't want my hair to get caught on my rings especially if you have prongs and could snag one up possibly?
Washing dishes? most times I do, I don't want my rings to bang pots and pans and damage my stones should it flip over and especially for you who have a pave, plus there are grease from those pots and pans that I dont' necessarily want them to get into my rings
Putting moisturiser on? definitely take them off, imagine smearing grease on your windows, can you see through the sparkle?
Cleaning the house? Yep! take them off, chemicals are harsh enough
Sleeping? I take mine off, not just for comfort (as my fingers tend to swell at night) but if you have it on 24/7 you have greater wear and tear, and who knows what your rings are hitting unconsciously at night?- the wall, bed post etc. your spouse? guage an eye out?
Working? I keep my ring whle working, I work in an office,so I'm not hard on my hands,

Any other times you don't wear your diamond ring and why?
gardening, landscaping, moving.

Washing your hands? Yes, too much trouble to remove and not safe to remove in public or near drains anyways.
Having a shower? Nope, I noticed it gets really dirty that way. I take it off at night and put in on in the am after showering.
Washing dishes? No. I worry about it getting banged on a dish and damaging the setting or diamond.
Putting moisturiser on?No. Dirty diamond = bad
Cleaning the house? Not usually, but I don't worry about it if I happen to do something with my hands and it is on.
Sleeping? Nope, unfomfortable and my hands swell at night typically making the ring uncomfortable. Also sheets can really wear does metal, strangely enough.
Working? Yes. I wear it from after I have done my hair/makup until I go to bed, with the exception of the above activitied. Always when I am out of the house

Any other times you don't wear your diamond ring and why? Exercising. My hands swell when I run and it is reallyt uncomfortable. Any time I am using my hands for lifting or digging etc.

Washing your hands? Yes - mild soap and water are ok on my book.
Having a shower? No - I have really long hair, so not a good combo washing the hair with the ring on.
Washing dishes? No - unless it's something quick, but have had some recent clients with ring down the drain situations! :o
Putting moisturiser on? No - grease...no good.
Cleaning the house? No - same with the harsh chemicals and I just have a tendency to be clumsy.
Sleeping? Yes and No -but I rather not for the same reasons with the swelling and comfort.
Working? Yes - it's an office environment so it's cool.

Great thread!

Washing your hands? Yep
Having a shower? Nope
Washing dishes? Nope
Putting moisturiser on? Never! =)
Cleaning the house? Nope
Sleeping? Nope
Working? Yep

I live in a large city, and sometimes I won't wear my ring in certain areas. If I have to use my hands at all-manual anything that's not typing, then I take the ring off. I'm pretty meticulous about it.

Pretty much any time I am at home I take my rings off. When I go out in public I will put them on. Why? I am a SAHM and I have no need to have them on. I am hard on my hands and I would rather not damage them.

Totally opposite I have some jewelry I never take off except to clean. But rings do get in the way while cooking, baking, cleaning and playing with my son.

Washing your hands? Sure
Having a shower? Sure, unless it causes you trouble with your hair.
Washing dishes? Maybe not. You’re jewelry will probably be ok but you may damage your dishes and just the right hit with a piece of porcelain can chip a diamond.
Putting moisturiser on? No. It’s not that it’ll hurt anything but it’ll gunk up the stone and it won’t be as pretty until you clean it again.
Cleaning the house? It depends on how you clean. As with the above, it’s not likely to hurt the jewelry but certain chemicals can get underneath the band and it can be hard on your skin, which is even more precious than your jewelry. Certain items, like pearls and opals can be very chemical sensitive but gold and diamonds are pretty tough this way.
Sleeping? You’ll need to tip it more often if you wear it sleeping but a lot of people do it.
Working? Depends on what you do for a living. Does it involve a jackhammer? Typing is ok. Talking on the phone is ok. Karate instruction probably isn’t a good choice.

Avoid rock climbing, rodeo, scuba diving, weightlifting (you can bend the metal on the bars) etc. For the most part, wear it and enjoy it. that's what it's for.

I wear mine 24/7, especially over here. I just do, it's hard to explain. It's not a wedding ring, I'm not married. It's just my ring. I had it made for me and I like leaving it on my hand. Of course I pull it off long enough to clean it or if I'm going to get my hands into something nasty, but that doesn't happen much. Now it's different with my other rings. I switch them out, but I still normally shower, etc with whichever one I'm wearing at the time.

Washing your hands? No. I take them off and flick the back with an old toothbrush.
Having a shower? No they soak while I do.
Washing dishes? No - unless it's something quick and my hand doesn't go all the way into the water.
Putting moisturiser on? If I have no choice about it (ie, in public and no place to store ring).
Cleaning the house? No, chemical burns under metal are not fun.
Sleeping? Yes if alone, no if not, I worry the marquise will scratch.
Working? Yes -and I am a machine operator! I had to have my setting tightened when I was a mail carrier, but not as a machine operator oddly enough...

I have different "rules" for different rings.

Washing your hands? Yes
Having a shower? ER/WB yes, eternities no.
Washing dishes? Yes
Putting moisturiser on? No
Cleaning the house? ER/WB yes, eternities no
Sleeping? Yes - whichever happen to be on my finger at the time
Working? ER/WB yes, eternities no

I usually take mine off when I get home, and leave it off when I am home (always on a ring stand where it could never get lost). It's a 100 year old antique so I don't want to subject it to needless wear and tear around the house. Outside of the house I would never take it off to wash my hands, there is too much risk of leaving it on a washbasin.

Washing your hands? No... don't want my rings to go down the drain, especially since i buy them a bit loose
Having a shower? No way!
Washing dishes? No, don't want to bang them against pots and pans
Putting moisturiser on? NO!
Cleaning the house? Depends on what I'm cleaning... dusting and vacuuming yes... scrubbing the bathroom- no!
Sleeping? no- my hands swell a lot at night
Working? yep!

Do you wear your diamond ring while (yes/no and why):

Washing your hands? Yes when I'm outside, No when I'm at home.
Having a shower? No, never (i'm too clumsy and my diamonds would for sure get banged around and damaged, not to mention they'd get all gunky from the (moisturiser in) the shower gel, shampoo etc.Washing dishes? No, never (I'd most likely damage the rings and/or the dishes)
Putting moisturiser on? Generally no, but I may put moisturiser on my face after I've put my ring on; but generally I put moisturer on my hands and face before I put my bling on. I tend not to put moisturiser on my hands after I wash them when I'm outside, but I worry my hands will become dry and wrinkly (any has any tips? )
Cleaning the house? Good Lord, never!Sleeping? No, again, they're at too much risk of being banged around
Working? Yes, I work in the office and always have them on at work.

Any other times you don't wear your diamond ring and why?
I sometimes wear my rings on whilst I'm working out because I'm concerned they maybe stolen from my home when I'm not there (though I have a safe); but then I'm worried I may drop some heavy weight on them or hit them against the side or front of the treadmill and that'd be a disaster! :nono:

Washing your hands? Yes, but I take them off and dry underneath when I get back to my desk.
Having a shower? Nope.
Washing dishes? Nope.
Putting moisturiser on? Nope. Yuck.
Cleaning the house? Nope.
Sleeping? Nope, I sliced my face open the first night I slept in my solitaire and never slept in it again. My fingers also swell at night, so I take off my wedding band as well.
Working? Yes, but I work in an office so it's not in much danger.

I leave my ring on for everything - cleaning, conditioner, moisturizer, yard work (although I try to wear gloves for the really heavy dirt activities) and thus clean it everyday.

24/7 but for showers and harsh cleaning chemicals.

All my jewelry comes off the moment I get home, so I don't do most of these things.
I do wash my hands with my rings on while at work, but take them off to moisturize.
