thank you everyone for helping me. I browsed a few jewelry stores today with my friends. I think I have an idea about what I want. I'm looking for a ring that has multiple diamonds and the band itself has diamonds around it. I don't understand all the width and depth measurements. Could someone explain to me what all that means? thanks
don't forget I dont' have a budget so don't be afraid to get me "wild" ideas

What shape diamond do you like best? Or what kind of look, more modern? Antique? White or yellow metal?

If I could have any ring at all, with any diamond at all, I think I'd be finding my inspiration at www.artofplatinum.com. Even though I like more modern styles, Leon Mege is just the most amazing craftsman. My other choice would be Mark Morrell.

With no budget constraints, I think I'd have to pick a 1.25ct (oh the horror, I still like 'em smaller!

) D IF EightStar. If my budget were truly unlimited, I'd happily take that 26.6 million 100ct D IF emerald cut someone just posted on another thread

If money were no object, I think I'd plunk down a healthy chunk of change on this 1.82 D SI1 H&A for $28k

or this 2.27 D SI1 ideal cut for $23k

or this 2.47 E SI1 H&A for $25k

or this 3.11 H VS2 H&A for $38k

Table and depth refer to the relationship (size-wise) between the large flat facet on the top of the diamond and the diamond's diameter, and the relationship between the height and width of the diamond, respectively. What does it matter? These measurements determine the angles at which light is reflected (or not reflected and therefore lost). If the percentages are in the correct range, you can have a pretty good idea that your diamond is well cut.

There are guidelines for the cuts of different shapes here
