Either a thank you card or note paper would be appropriate. I will say that if you go with a thank you card to add a personal thank you sentence and not just Dear Boss (cheesy card greeting) thank you, Shimmer and Shimmer''s FI

It is absolutely never, ever appropriate to send an e-mail thank you when someone has given you a present! My thoughts on this matter are simple, if someone can take the time to purchase you something, you must take the time to formally thank them for it. Sure, e-mail is faster...but handwritten is personal, and special.
