Thank you all for helping. I purchased a round brilliant diamond based on your recommendations and my research.

I am now at the setting phase. I know excel has nice tiffany style settings. Here are the two that I found... which do you guys like?

1. http://ExcelJ-869NUMBER1

2. http://Excel678-JNUMBER2

Also do other vendors that you have mentioned sell good tiffany style settings like James Allen or GOG?

Did you end up buying a diamond from Excel? If so, then definitely get the setting from them. Of those two, I like the second one best. The first one is more of a replica of the real Tiffany setting, but it is not nearly as nice as their high quality Tiffany solitaire replica.

Bottom line, you need to get a solitaire setting wherever you bought the stone. I need to go back and see which one you were considering last when we were talking to you! (The last ones I talked to you about were at Good Old Gold. If you bought a stone there, you'll want them to set it in a solitaire setting for you.)

Congrats on the stone, though!

nj, congrats on your purchase! And you''re very welcome.

I agree with ds, on both liking the second setting best, but to try and get the setting where you got the diamond. If you got it at Excel, you can either get one of these, or, if they will agree to set it, send them a setting from somewhere else if you find one you like more. I''m not sure what their policies are.

Oh, njseeker you totally made my day! I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and am so glad I was able to help too! Your gf is so lucky to be getting such a thoughtful man.

I agree with the others that getting the diamond at the same place is probably the easiest based on where you purchased it - if you think your gf really wants a tiffany look, hands down the best replica setting is considered to be this one...

There have been many people who have been in Tiffany itself, and actually had their rings (in this setting) mistaken for being an actual Tiffany.
I am just putting that one up there in case you are interested in the actual Tiff style. If you have already whittled it down to the two you posted above, I also prefer #2 of those.

If the diamond did not come from Excel, then let us know and we can help you. If the diamond did not come from Excel and you still want the best Tiff replica, then you still might be able to use their setting depending on where you purchased your diamond.

:) Beat me to it, but the link she provided is the setting from Excel that most closely resembles the actual classic Tiffany setting. That''s also something to consider. Good luck

YAY!!!! And thanks for the shout out to our team!!! Many congrats!!

ok so i bought a round brilliant from GOG. I asked a while ago about tiffany style settings b/c that''s what she likes. I''m not married to any particular one but... it seemed pretty unanimous that excel has the best tiffany style settings...

so i was going to purchase the tiffany style setting from excel and then have it sent directly to GOG or i would hand deliver it to GOG to be set... is it a mistake to not buy the setting from GOG?

I just want to buy a beautful setting to go along with the diamond... and I''m at a disadvantage b/c i have to purchase the setting now without being able to see it... another thought is that i could also leave work early today and go into excel and actually make the purchase live... is that better?

please help me understand why its better to go through the vendor that you purchased the stone from... thanks again all... =)

The thing is that if the diamond isn't set by the vendor you purchased it from, you need to check whether it is covered against damage as some vendors won't assume responsibility for a diamond they did not sell. Now it is rare with a round diamond that it does damage when being set - but things can happen so it is best to clarify if the diamond will be covered whilst setting, if not then you could see about getting insurance cover for this.

ok... so my initial thought was that i definitely wanted the vendor from whom i purchased the stone from to set the stone...

is it ok if i buy the setting from excel...

but purchase the stone from gog and have the diamond set by gog?

I don''t see why not but check with GOG initially to clarify the details.

Ok so I think I''m ok as long as i''m covered for damage through the setting process. any other concerns? I eliminated the first setting in my original post and replaced it with the tiff replica... Which tiffany setting do people prefer now?

1. the Tiffany identical replica 671:

2. The 2nd setting 678J posted earlier:

if you have reasons for liking one better than the other please share with me...

hi =) - how can you help... please tell me how...?. thanks much.

I like 671 best but they are both beautiful settings.

I like the #671, too. The other one does not look very much like a Tiffany band. It tapers in towards the diamond, which Tiffany bands do not do, and it also has a gap in the band that I don''t know how to describe, but it is also not like a Tiffany band.

I agree.

Have you asked GOG if they have anything close to the Tiffany setting? All the settings they offer, are not up on their site. You might ask Marie (in charge of settings) about that. If it turns out you are still liking the Excel setting the most, just check with GOG on if they will set it. But from past experience, they almost never have a problem with a setting from somewhere else.

#671 is the best Tiffany setting at Excel. I didn''t suggest it before because it was obviously in a totally different price category than the first two you posted. Those inexpensive settings are available at every jeweler on earth practically, so that is why I said the diamond vendor should set the stone.

Once upon a time I did call Excel for info on #671. It is just a little worrisome to send a stone somewhere else to be set if it is not insured, since stones, on rare occasion, can chip in the process.

If you want to go in that direction, that is fine, but Excel needs to set the stone if you go with that setting.

Let me ask you, did your girlfriend say she specifically wanted a setting like the solitaire setting in the Tiffany store, or is she just expecting a tiffany-style setting, which means a thin shank with a plain 4 or 6 prong head? Because not everyone on earth would be happy with the knife edge band unless they just happen to love the real Tiffany setting.

If she has not specified a true Tiffany knife-edge replica, then you can get a solitaire setting from Good Old Gold that would likely be fine. The Stuller Solstice is a very nice tiffany style setting that people here have bought in the past and GOG can order this to fit your stone:

I prefer the 671 out of the 3 posted, and not because it looks like the Tiffany setting, but because I think it is truly prettier. (I do like the profile on the Stuller that DS posted too)

GOG does carry a generic knife edge type of solitaire setting - I know because I referred a friend there (well, actually gave her a crash course in diamonds and referred her to this site!) and her fiancee (after she sent him here) bought her a beautiful diamond that sits in that setting now. The knife edge is pretty sharp on the one she has. I know the saleslady at Tiff told me they vary the sharpness of the edge depending on the size of the stone (the smaller the stone the more razor like the edge)
Call GOG and discuss with them what your options are - they have many settings on their site.
Many people don't know a true Tiff setting and to them all 6 prong settings look the same.
