Our school is going to be receiving a good amount of grant money... Our grant writer has asked me to make a "wish" list of things that I would like to have for the resource room. She is already going to ask for a lap top for each student in the program. What else should I ask for? I already have a lot of software/games for young students, to help with reading and basic math skills (Reader Rabbit and JumpStart Wold). I am also thinking of asking for a few TAG readers from Leap Frog. Any other ideas of software/programs that I could ask for? Specifically I need some ideas for things for my older students, who can''t really relate to the "baby" games I have....

I have students in every grade from 2-7...
1 second grader
3 third graders
5 fourth graders
2 fifth graders
3 sixth graders
1 seventh grader

I really need suggestions for the 5th-7th graders.... Any kind of software or technology that can help with remediating reading skills/reading comp/math

No, I don''t have any with that type of issue, but thank you for the quick response!!
All of my students are LD.... Most are mild LD, but I do have a handful who are pretty severe.

Tuckins, the best thing you can do for them is to teach them to read. Have you been trained in a good reading program? The only computer reading program that I have found to be really effective is headsprout.com, but it is internet based and you buy a packages of licenses, so it is not software that can be reused. I''ve had tons of games and things over the years, but honestly, most of it was a waste of time. Most kids in resource are behind in reading, and it takes a multisensory, systematic, stuctured language reading program to accomplish it. (I understand if you have too many kids in your room at the same time and need to use the computer for some while working with others. I do use Earobics with younger children sometimes and Quartermile Math is pretty good to help them learn math facts.)

I know that my kids are behind in reading. We do LOTS of activities to work on reading skills, not just computer games. However, I do let them play games after we have done things together, or when I need to sit with someone and do some one on one... I am the only teacher and when I have more than 2 or 3 kids in there, it is really hard to do one on one... I have had to structure the resource program myself, with ZERO help or guidance from administrators. They didn''t even have a certified spec.ed teacher in there before I came. I really am trying my best to target reading skills... I have hooked on phonics and I do use it with some of them. I just need more ideas of ways to reach them. I will look into the programs that you have mentioned. Thanks!
