Tapered Baguettes

I am fortunate enough to have been handed down a 1 carat emerald cut diamond center stone but want to flash it up a bit with some color in the form of tapered baguettes like this photo.



I have the center stone, just need to track down a pair of colored tapered baguettes and a setting. Anyone got any advice? I am open to colored tapered diamond baguettes,tapered sapphire baguettes, tapered emerald baguettes, etc. Is it possible to buy a pair of regular baguettes and send them to a gemcutter who can taper them and mount them in a setting as well??

Highly unlikely that you'll get a cutter to re-cut baguettes so you need to source tapered ones to begin with.

Depending on your budget both LOGR and Lan.bo on Ebay sell settings like this. They may be able to swap out the diamond baguette sides with coloured ones. It's worth emailing them to ask.

This is a pretty standard type setting and you can get it in most places (your local jeweller can probably source it for you also).

If you want to buy the baguettes by themselves then look at the sticky at the top of this forum for a list of recommended vendors. Also, Ebay is usually good for smaller stones BUT please be careful about quality etc.

Is that the actual ring? Very nice. Colored diamonds, sapphires, rubies, even spinels if you can find them, would look just smashing. Great idea. I would avoid emeralds due to their lack of durability unless the ring is not for everday wear & you can cosset it.

I recommend staying with sapphire baguettes because they hold up best in rings. Going for a recut not cost effective so you aren't going to find anyone willing to do this for you. Or if you can, your eyes will bug at the price quoted. The setting is very easy to find but the stones will not be.
