I have posted this chrysoberyl picture. I bought it from Tan. Now it is sent into a bracelet by Jill Anish; it was too large for a ring, plus I have many rings and do not change them too often. I have not yet received the bracelet so I am posting vendor' s pictutres

Very nice, Crasru! I am curious to know how big is too big for a ring.

Crasru, that's really gorgeous! I LOVE the goldwork around the bezel. Elegante. The setting shows off the stone so nicely.

So... Jill uses high-carat gold and blackened silver. I like the combination. I saw Aoife's bracelet made by Jill and asked for "something similar"; Jill had several versions. My big concern was uneven cut of the stone; Tan promised portugueze cut but honestly, the cut was... well. The color, however, is beautiful and Jill's mastery helped to conceal whatever cut problems the stone had. Maybe I am too critical, because the window was small and most important, my own jeweler did not criticize it. So the stone is glowy, and I am trying to find a smaller match for the ring. I still have to rely on Tan's opinion when it concerns chrysoberyls.

Thank you, Vapid Lapid and JewelFreak.

Vapid Lapid - the stone is 5+ ct and I have many rings so I often have to wear two on one finger. Three would reek of epicurean exuberance :loopy:

What a cool bracelet! I adore bezels so this right up my alley. The gold and the blackened silver look great together and nice stone!

HI:

Wonderful!

cheers--Sharon

Crasru, I love it! The blackened silver makes that chrysoberyl really pop, and the detail Jill used in the gold detailing is amazing. You'd certainly never know that there was any kind of problem with the cut of the chrysoberyl, it looks great.

Congratulations! :appl:

Thank you, Cind11, Canuk-gal and Aoife! Aoife, I owe you for the inspiration! I would have never thought of a bracelet had I not seen yours.

Cind11, Jill is very good at bezels and very easy to work with. She is also very fast and very professional. I do not know if she does basket settings, because I wanted to ask her for a basket setting.

Canuk-gal - nice to hear from you! Cheers! Hopefully it is not too cold in Canada, the weather has changed for the worse in Seattle.

Stunning bracelet. Jill's work is awesome and I love the high carat yellow gold and blackened silver combo. It really sets off the awesome color of your chrysoberyl.

I have spoken with a local jewelry designer who works in silver and while you don't worry about tarnish with blackened silver, if you constantly rub an area while wearing the piece, it can become shiny. Either you keep that look if you like it, or the piece can be reblackened. I'm a fan of the look of blackened silver. :appl:

Very unique, and I love how the grey metal serves a stark contrast to that neon light bulb of a gem in the middle!

OOOHHH very pretty. I like it alot, and very wearable.

I just contacted Jill about making a setting for my violet spinel so this is good to hear!

Thank you, TL, FlyGirl and TreeBean!

Fly Girl - Jill was "discovered' by you, wasn't she? At least I first saw her work in your posts.

Cind11 - I am glad for you because she is very fast and prompt. I do not mind waiting for a good jeweler or a good cutter, but sometimes the wait is incredibly long. What is very good about Jill is her promptness. I know she is very busy, but I think she is just very organized. She immediately answers e-mails, is approachable and just fast. For me, it is a pleasant surprise, and besides Jill, I have so far met only one jeweler who was very fast. Peter Lees.

Beautiful bracelet!

Unique and elegant piece - would love to see how it fits your wrist.. (i.e. more pics please!)

5 carats is not too big for a ring. ;)) The chrysoberyl really pops in that setting and I have to say, you have the most eclectic taste in jewellery. I always look forward to seeing what you have coming up next.

That's a lovely bracelet. The blackened silver really makes that chrysoberyl pop.

It's great Crasru! Like a little cup of absinthe.

Thank you, Lovinggems, Virgoruby, Kismet!

Chrono - my principle is very simple, "I like it - I don't like it". I have no other way to describe it. (It is like marriage, you know. :D Or rather, falling in love. Whatever people say can never explain why they feel this way. :D ). I am now thinking of a very interesting and probably not cheap item of jewelry and also plan to fix a very simple stone to my small slab of malachite... and see what happens.

(Jewelers here are charging 400 dollars... for their time   My husband said he will do it for $2 (cost of a super-glue bottle + time, calculated per hour. He is a physicist with a Ph.D. degree). I need to find something in between because I do not like the sight of super-glue spread over the malachite  He is into theoretical physics  ... but the cost, of course, is attractive).

Davi - absinthe is a good comparison, although I never saw it in real life, I just bought a bottle of G2 lemon-lime thirst quencher... looks the same way. I even wanted to make a photo of it.

As to wrist shot - I shall wait a little bit, OK? The weather here is so bad that sun is something only to dream about.
At least it is not raining because the forecast says snow, and usually it is a disastrous combination.

What a great unique piece. I'm another that loves the combination of the metals but I have to say that I would agree that 5ct isn't too big for a ring!

Enjoy wearing it - it deserves to be worn loads.

Nice! I love bracelets, and this one really shows off the stone well.

Thank you, LD. No, of course, 5-ct ring is not huge, if we are talking about a Burmese ruby, or a Russian demantoid. I'd take a 5-ct ring any moment. But for a mere chrysoberyl... :D (I mean, it has lower SG, it is larger! ;))

Thank you, Porridge! Always very nice to hear from you!
