So I'm having my five stone ring made at BGD. Classic uprong, I color diamonds, 1.75 tcw.

I did a previous thread about this and was strong in my decision to go with a YG shank & Plat heads.
I am now second guessing myself & thinking about all Platinum.

I had a lot of YG pieces which I sold a few years ago. All of my current stuff is in WG or Plat. I'm finding myself thinking that if I go with YG I need to buy a bunch of other YG pieces. I love the two tone look but will I regret it?

Please give me your opinions! They are waiting for my answer to start production. I want the ring done and on my finger like yesterday

I like two stone it's flexible. Do you wear costume jewelry? I've recently bought some yellow gold costume stuff so maybe you have too?

I cannot seem to reconcile wearing 18K (rose or yellow) with my plat. - at least as far as rings go.
I hope to someday overcome this - but in the meantime I seem to have a warm set (YG & RG) and a cool set (WG & Plat.).

If you share this affliction, go with all plat. to avoid future duplication. If not enjoy the YG again. It's been good to see so many lovely pieces in YG lately!

I have a yellow/blue mixed sapphire that I set in a YG bezel, but haven't worn that since I bought my diamond solitaire pendant. I do love it, but need a new chain for it. If I get a chain in YG then I would wear it again.

I also have a Chimento WG pendant that is accented in RG. I love that and wear it everyday.

I bought a preloved DBTY Necklace in YG & am planning to have it cut down into a bracelet soon.
Only than those three pieces I don't have anything. I would wear gemstones in YG, if it suites the gem color.

I would wear costume jewelry too, just don't have anything right now.

This is the issue. I'm thinking that for such a significant piece I should go with Plat. I can always do stackers in YG with it, right?
I did also buy a 2mm flat 18K YG band recently and have worn it everyday on my right hand with a skinny diamond band as a test run
to be sure I want to go with YG. I love the richness of the band but still not sure if I want my major purchase/saved forever for band in YG :(

I definitely have the mistaken mind-set that the serious big-girl jewels need to be in plat.
I would like to be more flexible in my thinking, but I am learning I view my warmer gold jewelry as more casual and somehow less worthy.

But just look at SS on Instagram and they mix some lovely rings in every metal.
I believe the YG band shown here is 22k. And I adore the stack.

I vote plat. You can jazz it up with YG stackers.

That's gorgeous!!! I love SS & the 22k band is delicious. My ring is serious big-girl jewels to me, sooooo I think Plat is the front runner :appl:

Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the vote! I'm thinking you're right :))

Still taking opinions, so feel free to voice yours Psers :cheeky:

I love yellow and rose gold BUT for some reason I feel that this ring should be in platinum (what do I know). That you can dress the ring and express your color needs with bands and stackers a la SS. So classic and fresh worn all alone and beautifully dressed in color when paired with YG or RG bands. Did I just basically say the same thing twice? Lol

Another vote for platinum. I would save the yg for less expensive gemstone rings if you decide to have a yg jewelry set.

Caveat: I'm not a gold girl at all, I would go with all Platinum. It can be repolished over the years and you won't lose metal like you will with gold.

Platinum never goes out of style. That''s it.

How about getting it all in platinum and gold plating the shank? If you don't want the two tone look, you can "wash" away the gold. I'm not sure if gold can be removed or only re plate over it.

Yellow gold was the preferred metal In my day so I don't reject it out of hand or think that you should save it only for pieces of lesser value jewelry. It still is a precious metal and most high end jewelers use both - it simply becomes a matter of personal choice.

I have thought sometimes of changing my jewelry to white metals but then I get a glimpse of my white stones set in platinum on shiny gold shanks and feel that it looks so rich! Two toned jewelry gives a depth not provided by one metal but that is strictly my opinion. I have a five stone ring with the diamonds set in platinum with a yellow gold shank. With that ring though you never really see the shank unless the hand is turned palm up for some reason. However, if most of your jewelry is set in white metal and you are seriously questioning your decision to go with the yellow gold, I think you should stick to all platinum. It sounds like a safer choice for you and you really don't want to leave room for regret. If you feel good about your choice going into the project, chances are you will enjoy the finished product all the more!

Can't wait to see your new ring - it's sure to be beautiful! :appl:

Thank you so much everyone! I could kiss  all of you for responding! One less thing to lose sleep over tonight ::)

I'm sending the email right now to change my order to Plat. By making this in Plat I'll have an excuse to buy a whole of bunch of YG & RG stackers :naughty:

MissGotRocks-you posted as I was writing this. I know you also responded in my other very similar thread about this ring in support of my decision at that time to go with the YG shank. I have been so torn over this. I really have set the project back over a month with my indecision :blackeye: I think if I was 100% sure the ring would be made by now! It's was paid for a while back but I keep changing my mind.
Because of that I'm going with Plat. I think the many times I've second guessed myself proves I might regret my choice.
I fully intend to start a YG wardrobe, just not with this ring.

I think that is a wise decision for you! Heading to production!!

Platinum. As said above, you can always ADD something in another metal later, but you can never take it away if you commit to YG. you could go thru a phase again, where YG loses it's appeal. If it were me, I'd go platinum.

 I already knew your vote ;)) I also knew you would see this & think....hmmmm, I already told her PLATINUM

Yes I am going platinum, taa daa!

I can't wait to see your ring :naughty:

Just posted my SMTB Thread luvsdumb, and anyone else who is interested. I'm extremely happy with it

Great choice Woofmama. I love mixing colors too but I think for this piece all plat is probably the best way to go. I mix gold within one piece too but generally I will make almost the entire jewelry in WG or Plat and then make the setting YG but this is to emphasize warmth in the stones. I do also like the look when mixing colors but I too think that in this case YG stackers are your answer.:))) Please keep us posted about your ring.

I see you've made your choice but my vote would have also been for all platinum. With a five stone ring, I assume you really don't have all that much yellow gold showing from the band with platinum heads. I think it would bug me to see a minor amount of yellow gold from the top and side views. With mixed metals, I prefer to see a more even balance between the two. But then again, I don't know what you're planning. I should probably look at your old threads.

Eta - wow. I just found the thread from your finished piece. Amazing. Great choice.
