So I may be in for an upgrade possibly from T&Co. since we purchased there already and we are sort of "invested."

I was thinking I could get a pattented cut this time - Novo.

The thing is I could probably get a G/VS2 1.5-1.7ish ct. Novo with the trade-in.

Not sure what I could get w/ GOG H&A cushion in repro setting with upgrade $$ alone (would it equal same size as T)?

Additionally, I am not confident in chosing a great Novo based on amateur experience and uncertain about ASET scope use on my own (reflector thread has my head spinning).

Or I could go for another T&Co. RB with the specs I want. Or get another diamond altogether with an online vendor...............OY!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What size Tiffany&Co. round stone could you get with your trade in?

Finally, thanks for the reply MGR...I know my questions are all over the place.

Recently saw some RB's in store and could get 1.65-1.7 ish G/VS2 for 2K under the upgrade policy.

So probably over 1.7 in a G. Who knows if I went lower color or even to SI1 (which they are carrying BTW)?

They have cut specs that would pass PS muster...........I would have to get an IS/ASET scopes to make sure & run #'s through HCA.

We have 14,200 or more to play with & the trade-in.

Hi Lisa,
I didnt really understand your last post...

So at Tiffs you have your trade in plus $14,200 to play with?

Where as if you use a PS vendor you just have the $14,200 to play with right?

What does
Recently saw some RB''s in store and could get 1.65-1.7 ish G/VS2 for 2K under the upgrade policy.
mean?

Does this mean your tiff trade in plus $2k can get you a 1.65/1.7?

It seems like you are saying two different things so I''m not sure what kind of money you have to play with?

Can you further explain for me (maybe I just need more coffey

Hi TyTy,

You r so right in my confusion...

The original RB E-ring cost 14,200 so according to their upgrade policy we have to spend another 14,200.

Total value of upgrade T&Co. ring would be 28,400 (this equates to around 1.7ish ct or more for either another RB or Novo with trade-in at T&Co.).

If I were to keep the RB then I could spend 14,200 elsewhere & possibly re-create the "Novo" w/ square H&A cushion at GOG but would it be around same size as T&Co. trade-in?

Also, the Novo is a fancy and I have no real guidelines as to how to pick it (ASET scope required I guess).

What a great problem to have. How do I spend 14,200????

If I'm reading this right ... here are your main choices

1. Trade in 1ct Tiffany ring + 14K = 1.7 RB Tiffany Ring
2. Trade in 1ct Tiffany ring + 14K = 1.5-1.7 Novo Tiffany Ring
3. Shop at GOG or other online vendor w/14K = 1.5-1.7 Cushion Ring --&-- KEEP YOUR 1ct TIFFANY RING??!!!!

No brainer.

This is exactly what I was thinking, deco! Keep your original e-ring. And then get a fabulous GOG chunky cushion (if you are as in love with them as I am

) Easy decision! The best of all worlds.

I agree with deco and icekid...#3 would be my option! How to spend $14,200...what a fun problem!

Edit - just looked at the branded square H&As at google and you have to call for the prices (darn it)!
So I have no idea what $14.2 might get you.

Don''t let us drive you crazy with picking the best diamond. No "Expert" can tell you what your eyes can''t. Walk confidently into Tiffany''s look at the novos by the window, under a table, away from the bright lights etc. Whichever one speaks to you is the best one for you, and it doesn''t matter what we say here if you have seen them for yourself. All of this talk about the numbers, reflector images is most useful for screening diamonds we can''t see with our own eyes. There is no substitute for what your own vision tells you YOU ARE GOING TO WEAR IT, not us. You can look at the lineup of Novos and make the comparison yourself, this is the ideal situation which most internet shoppers will never have the opportunity to do.

Regarding ASET aside from using it properly, getting the diamond into focus and aligned with the lense in bright diffuse lighting it doesn''t have to be complicated.

For your purposes you don''t have to worry about the limitations or the fine details you are just using it to help your vision find the best diamond and it is well suited for confirming what you see with your own eyes.
Red on the ASET should be seen by your eyes as nice and bright, green less and you shouldn''t see brightness in the white areas. http://www.ideal-scope.com/1.using_reference_chart_ASET.asp

You can keep in mind the limitations but they aren''t going to limit your use of the AGS-ASET nor will they invalidate your simple conclusions drawn from using it esspecially in this case.

You could also sell your old ring at signedpieces.com or try to find an auction place or second hand dealer. You might be able to get half of what you paid for it maybe more.
Then with your now increased budget you will for sure be able to get a Square HA from GOG with a micropave band like the novo in the 1.7ct range or larger.

Either option is feasible depends on the amount of trouble you would like to go through, but I would hate for you to go the copy route just because you aren''t sure your eyes can find the best diamond for you!

Good-luck,

CCL

I think I''d keep the tiffany ring and get something else online. Have fun!

Wanted to say that I wouldn''t limit yourself to the branded H&A square cushiony stones. There are other square cushions with rounded edges that will look NOVO-esque also. The H&A squares can sometimes look like RBs when set. And you''re looking for a NEW look. Something softer & more cushiony. They can help you find something great ..

Deco - Thank you for condensing and interpreting my ramblings. And yes this does seem the best of all possible worlds. However, truth be told I have always been bugged about the crown angle on my RB (35.2) with Pavilion (40.9) and ttl depth (61.9) to be honest - oh and also it scoring a 2.5 on HCA..........although I know this is a rejection tool and all. I will consider other cushiony cushions as well :)

IceKid - Yes, I am so in love w/ those chunky monkeys on GOG too. Last I checked they didn''t have any bigger stock but will look again.

tyty - Not sure about pricing on the H&A cushions but I think they are steep. I''ll send an email tonight.

CCL - You put it so eloquently. I will investigate further possibly revisiting T &Co. and contacting GOG or ERD. I have no faith in my "eyes" although I consider myself a fairly discriminating person (albeit with OCD for sure) so trusting myself is a challenge. Thanks for your encouragement. BTW, I loved diamond #1 and glad you went with that one:)

I really appreciate the input my mind is fried these days

.............If u happen across a great stone/s please don''t hesitate to make a suggestion.

Totally agree with keeping the current ring and getting a second diamond. You need to call Jonathan if you are interested in one of the chunky cushions because most are not making it to the website before being sold.
