It's been a very hard few weeks. I got this sweet little ring to cheer myself up.

It's set with a 5mm OEC, or maybe it's an OMC set NSEW, hard to tell. Nice high crown, nice big culet. The seller claimed H/I SI1, which is probably not off by too much--I would guess maybe J SI1 or SI2. To my delight, it turns out to have a good bit of fluorescence, medium or strong. I love the deco geometry, those triangles pointing inward. 1930s, maybe?

I now seem to be collecting half-carat-or-less engagement rings from the 1910s-30s--at least, this is my second. There's something so touching about them to me, especially in this time of giant (lab) bling. They speak to me of youth and hope.

She is pretty and so sweet. I totally understand the affection you have for these antique beauties who are so classically beautiful.

Lovely! It is a older old cut, probably late 1800s, so its interesting that the setting is such a later era. Maybe it was a family stone?

Cool — how can you tell the diamond is from the 1800s? It kind of looks like my grandma’s from the 1930s.. Asking because grandpa’s mom passed before grandpa and grandma got married, so maybe grandma’s ring came from grandpa’s mom, which would be 1800s.

Slight cushion shape, very large culet, very tall crown and small table, wonky faceting … I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not round at all but a compass set cushion. Anyway that points to 1860- 1880. By the 1930s diamonds looked much more precise and more like what we call transitional with lower crowns and fat arrow-like lower girdle facets and larger tables.

This is late 1880s

And this is 1930s

She's very pretty. I love the setting, especially the side "arrows". I've done the same regarding buying antique engagement rings with smaller stones. I really enjoy them.

It's lovely! I love all older cuts. Enjoy her!

The shoulders on this beauty are perfection! I love the entire ring, It looks beautiful on you!

So charming! I love all the little details.

Thank you, jewelry friends!

I also find these Deco Era rings to be so sweet and beautifully crafted. I love the artistic elements that went into Art Deco jewelry. I would think about the craftmanship and precision of these wonderful pieces.
I love your description "speak to me of youth and hope". - That is a lovely sentiment and so true!
