I was a little unsure about this purchase initially but my fears were unfounded once I opened the package. It is a 6.7 carat Loliondo spessartite measuring close to 12 x 9 mm from GemLine/Litnon. Michael was totally honest with me about the colour and inclusions but the price was right and the colour is excellent for a Loliondo. As expected, it does have a yellow modifier but it is less pronounced when in the shade or under incandescent/reveal fluorescent lighting. There is also a fracture type inclusion seen in the close up picture that does NOT break the surface, thankfully. It becomes almost eye clean at around 12 inches away from the eyes. The typical sugars are present but not easily detected with the naked eye.

The super close up where you can see the fracture. Fortunately, the colour is good enough to distract the eye from the inclusion.

Full hand shot showing that the inclusion cannot be seen at a normal viewing distance. There’s no sun at all today so this is one of the not so nice pictures. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow too so I may not be able to take more pictures until later in the week.

Very pretty! And an awesome size as well.

What a great gemstone to see on what is, for us, a grey and dreary day! It looks like you have some sunshine resting on your fingers. :sun:

What are your plans for this, Chrono?

Hi Chrono,

So glad you found a stone that is so beautiful. What are you going to do with it. Of course just looking at it works too.

Annette

It glows! And great size, too! No brown at all! Very good cut!

Congratulations!

Wow, HUGE stone, and very nice color too!!

Very pretty. Something about these luscious orange gems always makes me hungry.

I love the color and the size! can't wait to see what you do with it!

That's a nice big glass of orange juice! It just pop's with awesome color. How are you going to set it?

Gorgeous stone! Gemline rocks! :appl:

Woo-hoo ! What a fun stone. Another great Chrono pick. :appl:

Such a bright stone. :sun: Any setting ideas for this not so little miss sunshine?

Thank you, ladies. I’m not quite sure what to do with this stone. Initially, I thought of having it as a pendant since I already have a pair of spess earrings and ring to complete a suite. Then after some thinking, this stone deserves so much more than just being a pendant because the colour is too pretty to just hang around the neck. If I do set it in a ring, I have absolutely no idea of the design except that I will set it in high karat gold.

Gorgeous stone Chrono! Do you wear bracelets? If so, I think it would make a fabulous addition to your spess suite and you could still admire the stone!!!

Beautiful stone. I have a Loliondo and I love the yellow-orange color. It is very beautiful and striking.

I do have to take issue with the idea that pendants are only deserving of lesser stones. Pendants are far more visible to others than rings, they help to form a frame to your all-important face, and so it is worthwhile to have to have them be as beautiful as possible. Yes, I love pendants.

I’m not a bracelet wearer (too klutzy with my hands) and not a pendant wearer either (dislike shorter chains which are best suited for showing off gemstones and long chains only end up being hidden under my shirt) which is why I’m not quite sure what to do with this stone.

Well, in any case, I took more pictures of the spessartite yesterday when the sun peeked through the clouds for a couple minutes. The lines you see are NOT inclusions but where my skin made yucky contact with the stone.

I agree. I think the right pendant really sets off an outfit. I pretty much always wear one if the neckline is conducive to it because I feel not wearing one looks unfinished.

Very pretty stone Chrono.

That stone is just scrumptious orange marmalade!!!!!
I agree about pendants too, always wear one!

I know what you mean, Chrono, about a pendant on a longer chain hiding under your shirt. I've pretty much switched my wardrobe over to tops that show off pendants, and I almost never wear collared shirts anymore. It's a sacrifice I've made so I can wear more gemstone jewelry.

I never wear pendants, although I admire them on other people, so I'm biased. Chrono, I think this stone wants to be in a ring, and the high carat gold--yes, definitely! I love the way it looks on your hand, and can't wait to see how you end up setting it.

:O it looks amazing Chrono! You could always do a tiara. :naughty:

It put my glass of OJ to shame this morning

To those in the pendant camp,
Please sway me into your pro-pendant side with some possible design ideas to help me complete my suite. I’m not particular in having my suite match in design so you are free to suggest just about anything in 18K high karat gold. I’d like to keep the design simple enough that it is suitable for everyday wear and not just for a royalty gala.

Davi,
I think I need a bigger stone for the tiara.

i dont have any pendant suggestions, but that stone screams pendant!! something in high karat gold and maybe twisted/braided look...

A very nice size and color! I'm a little concerned about that fracture though, they can run. Are you thinking it for a pendant, or a brooch maybe?

Chrono, I don't know how I missed this, but that stone is HUGE and GORGEOUS!!!!!

I was at WF a few weeks ago, and when Renee was walking me around the shop, I saw a HUGE framed photo of your 5 ct. spess ring hanging on the wall, and I once again remembered why I adore your collection so much. I have no doubt that however you choose to set this stone, it will be of heirloom quality that belongs in a coffee table book!

Chrono, I have posted this before. It is my spess from Jeff White in a BGD setting. I like the fact that it is simple but has a bit of extra bling. Since your stone is not flat on the top and bottom like mine, mayne this wouldn't work. Hmm.

How about a double bezel?

WOW to Cind11 Pendant !!!
Simple and GORGEOUS!
I love that! IF it were mine, I would wear it all the time!
WOW

Lauren,
I had no idea about the picture of my spess ring at WF! Aw shucks, you are making me blush. Thank you for the huge compliment.

ForteKitty,
Something braided sounds good. I was wondering about doing some decorative metal work, sort of like making the spess the centerpiece of a metal flower pendant.

Cind,
It’s difficult to tell but what is the metal (yellow/white) used for your BGD pendant? It’s gorgeous. Do you have neck shots of it? How low do you have it sit on your décolletage?

LG,
I’m not too crazy about a double bezel but thanks for the suggestion.
