    hi,all!

I'm new here and now considering buying a pearl necklace for my mum with a budget of 150 pounds or more(approx.a freshwater one).I have read many posts in this forum and pearl-guide as well, and found that many recommended pearl paradise as a online shopping store. However,I am now in the uk and it would be quite expensive to buy there due to the high shipping cost and also tax.Another shop owned by someone named Wendy in uk looks good choice, but the problem is that choices are so limited.

Can anyone please give me some suggestions on where to buy one?should I buy from pearlsource of pearlsonly (seems that the two vendors both have bad reputation according to the posts from pearl-guide :(( ) ?

your reply would be appreciated !thanksssss =)

ps.OR it would be better to buy from China since most freshwater pearls are cultured there?I'm afraid I would get fake ones

    http://catherinecardellinipearls.com/

catherine is in australia but ships for a reasonable price. she is a respected vendor and has shipped to me here in california many times. she is great to communicate with so ask her your questions online. she will have something in your price range.

    Second that.

Also, I believe ebay seller agustus-collection is active on the other pearl forum and seems to be well respected. There are some nice strands well within your budget and they ship to UK.

I guess if you KNOW your vendor. There are too many out there selling pearls which are labeled something they are not. Just look at ebay for a prime example. Let the buyer beware.

    Hi Greyer :wavey:
I have never purchased from Wendy at http://www.pearlescence.co.uk but I have seen in person pearls that have been purchased from her. The women that I know that have purchased from her are picky, picky, picky and several have the diploma from GIA in pearls. The HongKong trade show is just over or very soon so she should have great new stock. I would email her and tell her what you are looking for and see if she has tucked back a little something in her stach and not on the web site. Please post what you decide and pictures too. Happy pearl hunting!!!

you keep mentioning buying from china and that its much cheaper. well, you're the buyer and you know the saying about let the buyer beware. if you don't know much about pearls or have developed a relationship with a vendor you may get something that is not only cheaper but looks cheap: in other words, you could get reconstituted pearls, fake pearls, etc. what appears to be cheaper may in fact be overpriced for what it is.

i have bought from Pearl Society on eBay with good results. they are about the only pearl direct company on eBay that i would buy from. they are mostly south pacific pearls and won't qualify as cheap from china. however, they are from china and reputable.

given your budget and wanting to stay cheaper, i'd say you're looking at freshwater pearls and that your best bet is going to be catherine. kojima here in california has affordable freshwater pearls. some have bought from pearl paradise with good results.

however, as in all things, its your $.
