Suggestions for a perfectly mismatched band

Bear with me here. I know a thin pave band would work with my ering. But can you make any suggestions on a wedding band that will look 'perfectly mismatched"? Three examples I love and why I think they work.

Happy canary...her wedding band incorporated rubies and is not a exact match to the ering shank. What unifies them is the vintage style of both.

Amethyste...ering is more modern and band is vintage...totally different diamond shapes in both. But the yellow gold of the band complements the yellow diamond pear.

Final example...love how they're both pave but the band is a super thin rose gold and ering thicker platinum.

What would be my perfect mismatch? I was thinking a thin rose gold u cut pave band...would love suggestions. Or maybe even a plain RG band, no diamonds.

I don't like to say anything negative about someone's rings, but I am going to have to say that in the picture you posted, I think the wb is too thin to go with that e-ring..unless it was used as a spacer and there was going to be another ring worn below it.

I think once you get the ring, you can maybe see if Pearlman's still has some sterling Beverley K rings they will send you to try with your ring. They have many different shaped bands, and maybe one will work like the alternating marquise and round, etc.

In that case, you certainly could wear a spacer like that rose gold one between them. Yenny wears a thin engraved rose gold band between her 3 stone ring and another diamond band. But I think you need to get the main band first.

I tried on the metro band in rose gold with my wedding band last week (legacy style) and it just looked... odd... It kind of disappeared. I think you can wear different width bands together but somehow one that is just too thin, like the metro, often doesn't work with other rings. I love the look of lots of metros stacked but as a stand alone or with other rings it doesn't do much for me. I ended up getting a band the same width as the Novo which is almost the same width as the legacy and it looks great. The proportions are right.

I am with DS on this one - wait until you have your ring and then try a bunch of rings on with it. See what looks good to your eyes. After all, it's personal preference at the end of the day. It really doesn't matter what we like, it's what you like.

I love mismatched wedding bands because it really personalizes a wedding set. I have the ring in the picture below paired with my round halo E-ring in platinum. I had the ring custom-made in rose gold and I added milligram around each little bezel to add texture. It is an eternity band (the diamonds go all the around to avoid metal showing if he ring spins) and it's about .55 carats total weight.

I'm drawn to Amethyste's band, I think that would look really pretty with your ering and give you that mismatched feel - I also really like momhappy's ring, that would work well with your ering too.

A rose gold engraved band a la yenny's would look nice too - I recently got a thin engraved band and I like how it looks with my ering.

I agree with pp's that the metro style looks a bit too thin - I know this isn't much help, but I think a lot of thin, vintage style bands will "work" with your ering, it's a matter of what is most pleasing to your eye. I think waiting until you have the finished piece is a good idea - just seeing the ring on your finger will help you make a decision I think.

At any rate, what a fun dilemma to have! :naughty:

Another idea is to keep the metals all in one color, but opt for different textures. I'm currently obsessed with stacking textured bands of the same metal color together.

Prior to that, I was mixing metals, which I also adore! I paired an Edwardian platinum 3-stone ring with a rose gold milgrained bezel eternity band and a super skinny white gold micropave band. Got compliments on that combo all the time!

I love mismatched sets, love mixing metals and think it will look great - what really ties mixed metals together, IMO, is if you can go for a 3-band stack, with two in one metal that look coordinated, and the 3rd band in a contrasting metal.

Here are examples of different mixed metal sets I've worn (these are all sold items, long gone) - hope it helps! In the first, you can see how the skinny white gold band ties it all together, while in the second, I think adding a white micropave band after the yellow band would have looked a little better than just the two together, since the halo had no yellow in it (unlike Amethyste's set). But it really depends on what you like. I've also worn a high polish bezel solitaire with an engraved, patina'd band, which looked really nice together too.

There really are no limits to how creative you can get!

All these ideas are so stunning. I can't decide which one I like more! I do find myself drawn to the bezelled rounds or the french cut from Amethyste...I'd probably do a semi as rings don't spin on me and to keep the costs down. My thought with the thin rose gold band is that it matches my skin tone so it would kind of fade into my skin and not draw attention from my e-ring. But that's probably not the right approach and instead, I should do something equally stunning and also in white gold but in a different texture. I will have to try them on, if the waxes will only get here and I can get the ring on my finger already!

Erica I adore the one you posted with the thin pave halo and the french cut band. I wonder if that look will work for me.

You're right...I have to make a visit and try them on! If only I lived in the US. Sigh.

I too like the idea of having the same metal w/ different textures!

Meanwhile, I can't wait to hear how much you love the wax version of your ering. I thought you'd have it by now, when is it due to arrive?

I saw this one this morning and thought of you:

If you are close to a Tiffany's you can often try on a lot of these styles. The Tiffany swing ring has marquise and round elements, the Tiffany Jazz has small bezeled rounds. The Tiffany Bezet comes in rose gold and might work with your ring if you want something less matching. The Legacy band comes in different coloured stones and has millgrain which gives it a vintage feel. The cobblestone band has rose cuts in it.... There are thin (2.2 mm) shared setting bands. There is a very pretty Paloma Picasso hammered gold band with tiny brilliants.... I agree, living outside the US has it's disadvantages but whenever I am thinking about a new band, I usually take myself to Tiffany's to see what they have and how it will work. Sometimes it will require a little imagination (stone colour might be not right etc.) but usually you can get a really good idea of proportions.

Erica's picture of her stunning three stone above is a great example of how the metro can work with other bands. It looks amazing stacked like that.

Another idea - do you follow Singlestone on Instagram? They post stacks all the time, giving you an awesome idea of how things would work (much to my husband's chagrin as I am always finding things I want). Their ids are singlestonemissionstreet and singlestonela.

That sheaves band is pretty! I'd see it as more of a standalone though.

Look at this! I know this is the halo version but it shows me that the shank could work with a more angular band. Brilliant idea kittycat! The halo does give it an overall more big look though, so I'll have to see if my 1.5 carat could hold its own against a band like this. I like Amethyste's band because although it's detailed, it's also very thin and delicate, so I'd need something like that. She said that it's 2 mm. Okay this pic is making me wonder if I should do a cushion halo. It's STUNNING. No I will stick to my solitaire decision,.....deep breath.

Also like the idea of visiting Tiffs!

I don't know when my wax is coming...he updated me last night that two were on their way. I'll post pics for advice as soon as they come in.
