I have two diamonds over a carat that are uncerted. How can I go about sending them to the GIA? Do I have to go through a local jeweler (who is not happy about my second hand purchases?). I saw the paperwork on the website, but it appears to assume it''s being submitted through a professional. Can anyone shed some light?

Are they loose stones? Is there some reason you need a GIA cert instead of an appraisal?

Yes, they are loose stones.

Sizzle, if you call GIA in NY, they will give you step by step instructions about what to do, where to send your stones etc. I would send them the same as we send diamonds across the country to be set by one of our PS vendors- registered mail, insured. I believe the woman I spoke to told me it''s a minimum of $125.- fee.

This is the link from the GIA website on how to submit stones-
