Stuck between two settings

First of all I'm completely new to this diamond thing so if I make a mistake go easy on me. :) So, I'm attempting to decide which engagement setting to get soon. The center stone is a round .78 Ideal VVS1 with I color. The two settings I'm picking between are the Blue Nile Floating Diamond Engagement Ring or the Blue Nile Pear Shape & Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring. Should this post work out the way I planned, both pictures should be attached to this email.

A little background: The engagement is a surprise so I can't ask her which she prefers. She has hinted in the past she cares more about the cut, she likes the sparkle, than the carat size of the main. Finally I did find a Tiffany Pear shaped ring picture on her computer labeled as her favorite. (her mom has that exact ring setting and I thought the pave from blue nile made it more unique.)

Right now I might be leaning toward the Pear Shape Pave however there are not a lot of reviews about it and from the pictures I'm not sure if some of the sparkle will be blocked by the thick band. The floating seems it might work with the center stone better making it bigger and more sparkle. All around I'm a little nervous about which one to get, any help from you experts is appreciated.

Thanks.

What does the exact one she likes look like?

IMHO, the one with pave overwhelms the stone. Did you see the same setting without pave? It's pretty nice!

That was my fear about it being overwhelming for the center stone. Here is a picture of the Tiffany.

Edit* It may not be Tiffany but it was labeled as that and I didn't do the research.

I love the BGD summer that Gypsy posted! I think that it will give her more finger coverage and be very elegant and classic.

If you girl loves pear side stones then make sure you go with that. I think that setting she choose is very pretty and elegant. I don't like the floating setting at all, the side stones blur out the centre stone which should be there star of the show. Most vendors will make you a three stones setting with pear sides if you ask, its not a huge modification from a three stone with all rounds. The BGD setting found above is very close to your inspiration photo.

Where did you find your centre diamond? Most of us prefer the buy the setting from the diamond vendor where possible as this limits setting issues. Also many vendors will offer you a discount on the setting if you buy both together.

Blue Nile does have this one that looks similar to the one you posted:

It comes in 18k, too.

I would get her the ring she likes and hope BN takes returns...

I'm not crazy about this version since the head is not integrated.

I had my ring with pear side stones custom made by BGD. they can make it with smaller pears if that is what you prefer.

If the budget allows, get one of the Brian Gavin ones; much prettier.

I love slg's ring :)
