If someone can point me to an article or data about twinning whisps, It would be much appreciated. I am looking to get to the "Why this is the inclusion to have" and etc, effects on the overall stone, and such.

Thanks in advance, If there isnt such an animal right now, can we start one???? :?:

Why are you interested? The truth is there is no one type of inclusion that is better or worse than another. Every stone has to be evaluated individually to know the effect of type, color, size, location of inclusions on appearance, durability, and performance.

My daughter has an SI1 with twining wisps and they are virtually invisible, which is why people like them (when they are invisible). Most people don't like black carbon globs in their ring stones, and feathers (also known as cracks) can be unappealing as well. Clouds and crystals may or may not be good depending on the position in the stone, which applies to all inclusions. My opinion is if I had to buy an SI2 diamond, yes, I would look for one with white, invisible-to-the eye twining wisps because for me, they are less objectionable than some other inclusions. But I certainly would always look at all options, because as Dreamer said, you have to evaluate every stone individually.

the pictures on the goodoldgold website provide a good representation of why some people (including myself) would say that twinning wisps are a favorite inclusion. a large percent of the time they will be eye clean, although can look scary on photography. my first encounter with this type of inclusion was searching for my own e-ring - i visited various shops with excellent/ideal cut loose stones with the frame of mind that i wanted a G VS2/SI1 to maximise my budget. the first vendor i went to actually said "let me show you something without telling you what it is, and you tell me if you like it" and it was totally white and eye clean, no matter which way i turned it. this is how i discovered twinning wisps and he told me that for many diamond experts and vendors who want to help their customer maximise their "bang for buck", finding an excellent cut, H, SI2 with twinning wisps that is eye clean, perhaps with slight-medium fluorescence was the way to go. after visiting a few more vendors i also heard the same thing about twinning wisps a few more times.

i ended up buying online to save money and found a great 1.23 AGS000 H SI2 with twinning wisps, amongst some other small inclusions, and i couldn't be happier.

see? scary!

much better ::)

here is another member who recently asked for our help and i recommended extending his search to SI2s with twinning wisps - he was more than happy with the result and got a beautiful stone https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/90-carat-round-i-si2-excellent-cut-platinum-solitaire.169266/

that being said the caveat is always that each stone MUST be individually assessed. never go just by a certificate - always ask the vendor to confirm whether it is eye clean, and if possible see it for yourself. my goal when telling people about them is for them to have more stones to investigate and potentially to find a cheaper/bigger but still high quality and stunning stone. sometimes SI2s with twinning wisps will not be eye clean. then we skip that one and search for another stone. easy peasy!
