Hello,

I have a 1 ct round brilliant set in a pave setting (18k gold) and consider invest ona cleaner - ultra sonic/Jet steam.
I email my jeweller about ultrasonic. He said it's fine to clean it with ultrasonic ..... like every 3 weeks otherwise it will make the side stones loose...

so I assume steam cleaner is safer based on what he told me. How often can I clean my e-ring with a steam cleaner. And any recommendation on which brand? I thought sharper image is the way to go based on the review on the forum but when I read the review on amazon.com.... lots of buyer grade 1 star...

should I go with sharper image or Jewel jet??

Thank you!! I just want my ring bling for my engagement photo in April and for my big day!! I did not buy my ring locally,so I don't someone clean it professionally forme.

Do not use an ultra sonic on pave. It will shake the stones loose. Use warm water, dish soap and a toothbrush to get the heavy grime off and the jeweljet for the crevices.

I have been using dawn, hot water and toothbrush to clean it. Each time I clean it this way, only the surface spark but the "edge" around the diamond has a blur around it.... so I thought maybe I need it clean professionally?

The steam cleaner will give it that extra kick. I love mine.

Do you mind to share which steam cleaner you are using?

I bought a never-used Sharper Image jewelry steam cleaner about two years ago. Had to hunt it down on eBay because it was the model from about 8-10 yrs ago, not the model they sell now. My jeweler recommended it when I asked about a home steamer. LOVE IT! I still get a thorough cleaning once a week at my jeweler though. Their steam machine is so much more powerful.

ETA: looking at eBay, my much loved sharper image steamer looks just like the the jewel jet model (the black one with the removable cup)

It's seems like the priescope group speak highly of the sharper image but the amazon review review are not so great.. which make me worry. I am planning to drive down to bellingham TJ Maxx to hunt down a sharper image as lots of people say TJ Maxx selling it for $29.99 USD while amazon selling it at $94.99

Good to know steam cleaner is the way to go. I used dawn dishsoap to clean it now but it doesn't make me happy. Like i said, it is claen on the surface but the edge is blur...

+1

Looks like Sharper Image has a steam cleaner now, anyone have experience with it?

It is possible to share the name of steam cleaner?

I use a Jewel Jet and I love it. I've just never really been comfortable w/ using an US.

I try to clean my rings every day w/ hot water and a drop of dawn and then I steam at least once or twice a month. I found that my rings just look phenomenal when they're clean and the center stone gives off so many more “sparks” that it almost appears bigger than when it's gone a while without being cleaned .

A few days ago, I tried something new, and I soaked my rings in water that'd been boiled in the microwave along w/ the dawn before steaming them. OMG, I can't believe the difference, even my husband keeps saying that it looks like I have more facets on the stone or something.

I can only guess that the hotter water helped to loosen more of the grease & grime and stuff, and helped the steamer be more effective, but whatever it is, I loved the results. So, I would definitely recommend the Jewel Jet from experience.

I clean my diamond in jewelry cleaner a couple of times a week. Just this past Friday I cleaned my rings that way before visiting a jewelry store with incredibly bright lighting. My stone actually looked almost cloudy in there (and it is VS1, so it was not from the stone itself). So it reminded me that either ultrasonic or steam is essential for diamonds. I have the Sharper Image ultrasonic but I would avoid an ultrasonic for pave. I need to get a Jewel Jet for those.

Sorry I am late to the discussion but was gonna ask if you have a shark steam mop. Mine has a detachable handheld steamer and I use it on my jewelry whenever I get it out to use on the floors. I have also read about others using the steam stem on their espresso machines or putting jewelry in the basket of their coffee maker and running plain water through it. Just a couple of ideas if you wanted to save a few bucks.
