And guess what?
Bia is E N G A G E D !!!
Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe it still and it’s been two weeks!
Also, before I tell all, just wanted to thank all my fellow LIW (and other PSers) for your sisterly support and kind words during my time as a LIW. I was thinking of you all over the break—I really missed you! While I wanted to post same day, I didn’t have any pictures (I know you guys hate that!) and I was also supremely busy getting ready for Christmas and my vacation. Please forgive me for taking so long, as I have seen that many more LIW have recently gotten engaged as well (yay!).
Okay so here’s what happened…
Monday, the 22nd, ended up being my last day at work. BF called me from work to ask me how I was feeling, since I was sick that weekend. He said he thought I should relax after work and that he would cook me dinner and take care of me. I told him that that was sweet but that I was feeling great and that I wanted to go get our tree since Christmas was almost here. He replied that he’d rather go the next day—that today was for a little much needed R&R. I, naturally, had to disagree, and told him that I wanted to get our tree TODAY because we were running out of time…and “didn’t our X-Mas tree tradition matter to him?” This continued back and forth until finally he said, “fine! we’ll get the tree…” but he was annoyed. So I asked him what his problem was…yadda yadda yadda. Finally we just hung up, by this time, both annoyed.
I got home a little after 5PM and when I walked into our apartment I was surprised to see that he was cleaning—not just everyday picking up but really cleaning! The apartment was immaculate! He had a fire going and lit candles on the mantle and by the window. I was like, “Okay, he’s doing this so I won’t want to go out.” He met me in the foyer and gave me a kiss and said he was sorry for being a jerk on the phone earlier. I said, no big deal and then figured he did all this to make it up to me. It was really very sweet, looking back now. Anyway, he tells me to relax, that he’s making me dinner. A few minutes later I see him SCRUBBING the bathtub. I was like, WTH??? He told me to wait in the living room. Then I hear him fill the bathtub. Still confused, I go into the kitchen and he quickly follows me in and ushers me out saying dinner is a surprise. So finally, I ask, “What’s going on?” He said that he has a present for me. He hands me a bag (one I thought was filled with clothes his mother had given him) and I open it to find a big white spa robe—which I totally loved (I’d actually wanted one for awhile, just never wanted to spend the money on it hehehe). Anyhoo, he then proceeds to tell me that tonight is about me. That he wants to celebrate my hard work this past semester (got a 4.0!) and especially wants me to relax as I have been working really hard with school and had gotten sick as a result (not that sick!). So I was thinking “awwwwwwwwwwww… this is so NOT like him, but I love it!” I took a glorious bubble bath, like they do it the movies, it was quite ridiculous actually LOL.
After my fingers started to really prune, I got out and into my new robe. Asked permission to enter the kitchen, where I found him stirring some spaghetti sauce. He asked me to check the chicken he had in the oven. Of course, I had to put my two cents in and said, “didn’t you just put this in 10 min ago?” To which he said yes, but that he wanted me to check it anyway. So I did. As I was doing that I said, “baby, I wish we had some wine…” he agreed or said "yea, me too..." something like that--details get blurry here. Anyway, out of the corner of my eye I see him opening up a bottle of really, reeeeaaally good champagne that we had been saving. So I sat there thinking, “why is he opening that?! its not even chilled!” I was also thinking that I was hoping he’d save it for our engagement. I told him it needed to chill first, and he said, “Its okay, this bottle is so good it won’t matter.” What I didn’t realize was that he’d been chilling it since he got home that day…but he left the box where it stood all these months so I wouldn’t notice…sneaky sneaky.
As he pours me a glass, he says, “Babe, I’m really proud of you. Here’s to school being done for awhile and to Christmas, and to of course, you…I love you so much Bia, its crazy.” We kissed and then immediately afterward, he asks me to pour him a glass. I did, and as I look at him to give him his champagne, he puts out his hand and shows me a little box…
I just stood frozen.
He didn’t ask anything, I didn’t say anything. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. Then I screamed (screeched?) a bit, and threw my arms around him. Did that for awhile, to which he finally said, “So are you going to marry me or what?” LOL I just said “Oh my God, YES!” OR something to that effect. It was really funny.
Afterwards, he told me that he wanted me to know how much he loves me and that he, not for one second, had any doubts about marriage or proposing—that he hoped I wasn’t worried that that was why it was taking so long. I admitted that I was worried because he hadn’t given me anything to go on. He admitted that he knew since early last year that he wanted to do a Christmas-time proposal and that the most important thing to him was that I was completely surprised—basically he was trying to throw me off intentionally. He also said that he had the ring since October, but had it shipped to my brother’s house and then gave it to his mother for safekeeping. I was impressed because I usually catch on to things…not this time though. He also said that EVERYONE knew except me. They didn't know when, they just knew that he had the ring. To be honest, I'm impressed that my mother was able to keep that secret from me. So yea, it was a family surprise!
So, now for the ring…
I don’t have all the specs because his mother has the certificate, but what I do know is that it was purchased from Mark at ERD, so its beautiful, off the bat LOL. Seriously though, it is a GIA Cert RB 1.75 H VS1 (totally eyeclean) Excellent Cut (almost perfect cut according to my BF) Ring size 6.5 (needs to be resized a bit b/c its a bit loose) Its really spectacular! The setting is a standard 4-prong platinum setting he got from Mark. He said that he sort of knew what I liked for the setting, but that he didn’t want to take any chances, when I’m ready I can change it. Right now, I am just so in love with my ring, I don’t want to change a thing—frankly, I couldn’t bear to part with it LOL. Eventually, I’d like a custom 4-prong setting done by the master, Mr. Mege.
Now to upload pics...these really do NOT do my ring justice, but for you all...I cannot resist.

So, now for the ring…
First, let me just say that I had THE HARDEST time taking pictures of my ring. I never realized how difficult it is, and that’s that I have a semi-decent DSLR camera. I need to study it a bit more because its fairly new and I don't really know how to use it that well.
