Well I got the GIA cert # on that $2200 craigslist 1ct round. Its set in a platinum solitaire setting. I posted the results below. Still haven''t seen the diamond. The plan is basically to meet at an independent jeweler of our choice, have it verified and either buy it or not. But what do the comments "Additional clouds are not shown. Surface graining is not shown." mean? Does that mean that the diamond is cloudy and has surface graining that they didn''t indicate on the certificate diagram?

it means that there are more clouds and surface graining than those plotted on the inclusion plot but these are not grade setting inclusion, of lower intensity than what was plotted on the inclusion plot. Usually not that bad but the appraiser will be able to tell you more when he sees the stone.

Nice proportions!

Ditto, this means that the inclusions are not thought to me an issue and are only mentioned in the comments section for the sake of completeness.

The proportions of the stone look good, an independant appraiser would be the best person to advise you and oversee the sale as you want a neutral expert that is used to appraising diamonds involved.

sounds like a great deal if the stone matches the GIA cert.

yes.

The comments that you have questions about are very common. The additional clouds comment simply means that there are more clouds in the diamond than have been plotted on the report diagram. They may be of the same clarity of those that are plotted or they may be of higher clarity, but the GIA requires that only a certain amount of inclusions are plotted depending on the clarity of the stone. Surface graining is never plotted on a GIA report, so any diamond with surface graining will have this comment.
