Hey all,

I ordered a cheap, plain 4mm stainless steel wedding band to wear this summer--DH and I spend nearly every night and every weekend hiking or climbing in the summer which basically leaves me ringless most of the time. Since this is our first summer as a married couple, we decided we wouldn''t mind having a durable rings we coud wear when we are doing things that would most definitely damage our platinum bands.

So this is my question: being that I am a stacking band-aholic, if I wanted to pair the stainless steel band with other platinum bands, would it be okay? I think I''d only do this occasionally (maybe once every couple of weeks), but want to make sure the steel won''t hurt the platinum.

Hmmm...I know silver is ok to stack with platinum because it is soft. I am going to venture and say that steel is probably NOT a good thing to stack with platinum at all because it is so much harder. But I''m no expert.

I was thinking the same thing, Neatfreak. I don''t think it''s worth risking--I''d be pretty annoyed with myself if my super cheap steel band ended up damaging my more sentimental bands.

Agreed. Could you get a cheap silver ring?

Gosh I have no clue, great question. Hopefully one of our experts will respond. My knee jerk response is that it''s not a good thing....
I hope for you I am wrong.

Silver is so soft that if I wore it rock climbing I''d just scratch the heck out of it--steel is about the same price and hopefully it will hold up. If I decide I want a plain band for stacking, I''ll probably go for platinum or maybe even get another palladium band (I exchanged my last one for a rolling ring). Thanks ladies!!!

hi! bruce boone (hope i got his name right) posts here on occasion. i hope he sees this as he does steel type rings and i have seen platinum sandwiched in some of his bands. maybe his site offers this info. i will be watching for the answer as some expert here will surely know.

Thanks, crown!

bump hoping someone in the know sees this.
