Split Shanks and Wedding Bands

For those ladies who have split shank engagement rings what type of wedding band(s) do you wear. Pics would be great. Have you had any trouble finding a w-band? Does your wedding band set flush w/ your e-ring or is there space? Pros and cons to split shank?

Hi Paris.

I wish I could help you. I just sent my LM split shank that was intended as a RHR off to JBEG for consignment. I did not wear it as an e-ring with a WB. Heck, I never wore it at all.

My guess is it depends on the gallery and how the prongs join the shank. If the gallery is smaller, continuous with the shank, or non-existent, a WB may sit closer. Also the prongs would have to join the shank at the top, rather than at the sides. If the gallery is larger and more pronounced and the prongs don't end before the top of the shank, I would imagine you'd have a larger gap. I've attached a few pictures of the underside of my ring so you can picture what I mean. I think it could be tough to get anything to sit flush - you'd have to have the clearance.

I would be careful to choose a band that doesn't have exposed diamonds rubbing against the metal of an e-ring setting. It could compromise the setting over time.

I think visually I'd be more inclined to get a WB that matched the split shank band, but that's just me.

It really depends on the split shank. I have a split shank ering, and a ring that I sometimes wear as an ering, and they are both very different (I have a few threads floating about with pictures of them...) Big Blue's setting seems to sit well with an ering and my ering does not really sit flush with a wedding band because of it's curvature. I found a pic of them (and friends!) with wedding bands! Yay!

Mine is too wide to wear flush with a band, but that was my intention. I wear it alone. The only thing that I have ever tried on that would flush fit with my ring was a flexible eternity ring from WF, but I did not prefer the look.
