I started taking Spin classes a couple of weeks ago and I love it! Ordinarily I hate exercising and do it strictly out of necessity but I really like this. I love that I can't get into a *zone* and totally focus (without risking self-injury!) and, for some reason, my endurance picks up as the class goes. So, instead of feeling pooped at the end, I feel totally energized. I haven't seen any change on the scale yet but that *might* be how I ate over the last week. :naughty: I guess I don't really have any point in posting this other than sharing that it's been really great so far for me and I would love to hear the experiences of others.

I had the same experience with spinning, Puppmom! I LOVED it! I did it several years ago and had to stop when I started taking grad classes at night.

After about a month, pounds seemed to melt off of me and I was probably in my best physical shape at that point. I was still doing martial arts at the time, so between that and spinning, I was really fit. I've been meaning to get back into a spinning class, so this is the reminder I needed. Thank you!

I always felt so energized and left class on a natural high afterward. I did the 45-minute classes and really loved them. Hmmm . . . I wonder if my gym has a class tonight . . .

We bicycle outside during the warmer months here, but I can't tolerate it in the cold. DH sets up his bike on a trainer in the winter, but it isn't the same as a spinning class. I get so bored when I bike alone.

Okay, you've convinced me! I'm going to start spinning again!

I've always wanted to try spinning, but my pelvis HATES bike seats with a passion! I've tried riding stationary bikes of all shapes and sizes of seats, and it never fails: I am in pain for DAYS after just a 30 minute ride.

Anyone else have a similar problem? And did you find a solution or did you just give up?

Oh. I opened this thread because a friend just asked if I'd like to have his antique spinning wheel to work with. As in, spinning yarn.
I'm a complete muppet sometimes!

My buns were so sore the first time! Not the muscles, the bones underneath. Ouch! The second time was a little better and now it's not hurting at all. I think there were a few issues for me - no glute muscles (I'm working on it!), the seat was too high, and I was sitting on the wrong part of the seat.

Haven, you've got me even more motivated! I totally need to get back into shape. I relied on breastfeeding to keep my weight down and I wasn't *in shape*. When I stopped nursing I gained 10lbs in less than a month!

I need to get myself back into this. I used to do this and teach/take Zumba constantly. The problem is that I don't have a gym within 5 minutes of my house and that is like a requirement or I will not do it.

Third one here. I had never thought before about what great exercise making wool yarn could be. Now, I'm wondering.. :twirl:

Yup...those bones freaking HURT when I'm done...and forEVER! Maybe I'll give a spinning class a try and ask the instructor to make sure my bike is set up properly and that I have good form. If I'm still in pain...do you think those padded bike shorts would help? I don't want to make the investment if it's going to be useless, but they offer spinning at my work gym and I love the woman who teaches it...and I feel like if I don't try it now, I never will. :rodent:

When I was ACTUALLY going to the gym, as opposed to just paying for the membership :naughty: I LOVED spinning! For the sore bum problem, I bought a gel "saddle" for spin class from Walmart and kept it tucked under the passenger seat of my car (so I wouldn't forget it at home).

Something like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bell-Sports-Gel-Tech-Seat-Pad-Platinum/14003651

I had a pair of padded shorts, but I preferred the gel saddle/seat cover b/c its cheaper than the padded shorts, and I don't like wearing tight shorts in the gym... makes me think of those neon and black bike shorts I coveted in the 80s that my mom wouldn't buy me - (WHAT WAS I THINKING???)

MrsSalvo has led/taught spinning classes. Hopefully she will see this!

Bike shorts will definitely help! I haven't taken a spinning class in forever but I wear them when I ride my bike and they help a ton. I also get super sore butt bones so I know the feeling! The bike shorts don't completely solve the problem but they help a ton. I really like Shebeest for bike shorts.

ETA pretty sure these are the ones I have: http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodSB_2101_0.html

Thanks for the input, thing2! Maybe I'll take a class next week to see if I enjoy it (and suffer once through the sore butt) and if I have a good time, I'll invest in the shorts!

I adore spinning! I do three classes per week and I would do more if I had the time. It's great fun and we have a super instructor. Can't wait to get back to it after Christmas.

Bee, any pointers on lifts or jumps (I noticed different instructors use different terms which can be tough on a newbie!)? I struggle because I think I'm not using the proper muscles. I think I'm supposed to be pulling up with my core but my abs are pretty weak so I end up using my legs. When there are a lot in a row or they're at a fast pace, my quads just poop out on me.
