How many of you layer necklaces?

I haven't taken my pear diamond pendant off for more than a day since I got it. But I'm having a complimentary piece made up for my 3rd anniversary, a Burmese ruby pear of 1.11. I'm planning to have it plated with black rhodium, with a matching chain a little shorter than my 20" platinum - say, 16". I figure I can always alternate if it looks like it's too much, but ... what say you guys?

Do you wear more than one necklace at a time?

Re: Spin-off from Rings on Adjacent Fingers: Layering Neckla

OMG I think your ruby/black rhodium plan sounds to die for! That sounds amazing w/ your pear pendant. I wear a lot of my Tahitian pearls all at the same time, and I would happily layer my diamond pendant with stuff if I had anything that worked with it.

I'm not sure I'm the right person to be answering this one though. I am always happy to overdress for any occasion and *subtle* isn't really in my sartorial vocabulary. At all.

Oooh, that sounds amazing!

I like layering delicate solitaire pendants. One of my projects is a set of three bezeled pendants, in graduated colours and sizes. I just need to find the right stones.

Thanks! I'm v. psyched about the pendant, I just don't want it to look too dressy for everyday.

And, from past posts on fashion, I've gotten the feeling that you and I have a very similar style. :rodent:

Thank you! I am kicking myself for not having photographed the ruby loose - it has such a wonderful color, almost a glowing red. And the shape is lovely, too, a nice elongated ruby.

I'm actually planning something similar! I'm v. tempted to keep an eye out for a nice W-Z or fancy light yellow pear to be bezeled in a rich, rich yellow gold to complete the set. I'd wear that one on a very short chain, almost choker-length. What kinds of shapes/colors are you thinking of?

Re: Spin-off from Rings on Adjacent Fingers: Layering Neckla

Oh, so this is ok to do? Fashion wise, what is the 'rule' on layering now? Can delicate chains be worn with pearls? How about more substantial torcs?

Re: Spin-off from Rings on Adjacent Fingers: Layering Neckla

Ooooo, that ruby sounds gorgeous!

For me, I never wear more than one necklace at a time--I'm "busty" and haven't liked attention on my chest since I was 12 or so. Also, maybe it's just me, but they tend to tangle.

I have a friend who layers her necklaces and they look beautiful!!!!

Can't wait to see that ruby!!!!

I want sapphires - from pale blue to a rich cornflower in white metal - or some nice, rich spess in 18kt gold. I also thought of getting matching colours, but different shapes (a round, then an eloganted oval and finally a pear).

Reader - I have no idea if this look is in or not. I just like and go for it!

Re: Spin-off from Rings on Adjacent Fingers: Layering Neckla

Sounds like it would really great layered. Besides if you love both necklaces and want to wear them together who cares?

Re: Spin-off from Rings on Adjacent Fingers: Layering Neckla

I used to layer my neckaces all the time, but then I got into longer pendants so I stopped layering and started wearing just one at a time. I think your layering plan sounds fantastic! I am in LOVE with your pear pendant and the ruby version sounds amazing! I can't wait to see photos when it's all done!

Re: Spin-off from Rings on Adjacent Fingers: Layering Neckla

I have only worn my pear pendant for the last 15 years or so but for my birthday I just had an etsy vendor make up
a pendant with a .47 diamond in it. I had him put it on a long chain so I could wear both at the same time. Its also
sterling silver but I had him tip the middle of the flowers in gold so it would sort of mix/match with my pear that is
in gold. My new pendant was suspose to be here yesterday...but it looks like it is stuck in Missouri according to the
tracking number :(( . I'll post some picks when it gets here. I'm very excited to it! Its my first piece of custom jewelry.

Re: Spin-off from Rings on Adjacent Fingers: Layering Neckla

I think that sounds like a lovely combination!

I layer my bezel solitaire with my OEC squarish halo pretty often. The only thing that drives me nuts is unraveling the chains after a day's wear.

There has to be some way to link the necklaces so they do not catch...perhaps a device like a piece of clear airline tubing from an aquarium that would sit at the back of the neck....would also keep the clasps from shifting to the front...

I don't think it even needs to be that fancy ... a bar with loops on either ends that you linked the necklaces into could do it. The shifting, I'm afraid, is inevitable unless you clip it into your hair. :cheeky:

Totally depends upon your style and what you're wearing, where you're going, etc. To answer your question, it may be easier if we see pictures!
