Has anyone out there ever used their Sonicare toothbrush to clean their diamond?

Just as a heads up...it works really, really well...better than anything I've tried thus far.

Edited to add - no, I don't use the same head to brush my teeth.

I bought a separate head for $25, much cheaper than buying a clunky ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, and it works just as well.

Yes, I'm becoming a tad obsessive over here.

Haha, I use my Ionic cleaner every day, and my sonic toothbrush on the weekend, just to get the 'deep' dirt. It really does do a nice job. Way better than trying to get at the nooks & crannies in a setting with a tiny little toothbrush.

Catagirl,

Where would I purchase an ionic cleaner and is it the best way to clean diamonds???? Would the sonic care toothbrush be just as good??? I have always used a regular toothbrush and windex or other jewelry cleaners. I want to make sure this ring shines forever!!!. I also have earrings and a wedding band to clean as well.

P.S. You ring is gorgeous as well. I have been admiring it since you began posting photos. The color is amazing!

Good luck with your upcoming wedding.

These are great but increase wear exponentially (some word of wisedom says that one professional cleaning has the same impact of 6 month of wear, so yours may be 3 month per week?)... What happened with the good old hot water?

Hi Stephcola, I bought mine at the LA Jewelry Mart, but if you do a search on the Internet, a lot of places carry them. What I like about the Ionic cleaner is that it doesn't vibrate, so no danger of loosening pave or invisible settings, etc. Also, you can let the jewelry soak in the cleaning solution overnight, then run the machine in the morning prior to wearing the pieces.

As far as the toothbrush, that is why I only use it once a week. Don't want the smaller stones to get loose before their time.

By the way, thanks for the compliment, you know I love yours too!

I set my Sonicare to the "gentle" setting when I use it on my e-ring. If a Sonicare is recommended for use by dentists on restorations & orthodontic work, I don't think it's going to harm a diamond. Nevertheless, I won't use it more than once per week!

Be careful with the Sonicare. I was doing the same thing and your're right, the ring looked marvelous. After 3 months I lost a baguette. I was told by a very good appraiser that micron by micron the vibrations could loosen a stone.

Now I took the advice from this site. Clean ring (in between prongs, etc) with Dawn and a small artist's brush. Soak ring in hot boiled water. Blow dry. Works like a charm.
