Son thinking about getting engaged.......

Hi. So, my son is thinking about getting engaged. His SO doesn’t even know what shape diamond she wants, but wants it to be really nice, since she isn’t a jewelry wearer, and is figuring that this piece will probably be her only good piece.
I have a question,
I keep getting emails from Ritani. Has anyone had any experience with that diamond dealer?
I think this is going to be a long, slow process, but my son wants me involved. I think he wants to spend 5-6 k.

Agreed. I’d also recommend that the GF get on Pinterest, and start searching for engagement ring styles. She should pin what stands out to her; what catches her eye. That way, you & your son have concrete starting ground. We are all creatures of habit, and consistency. Pinning her likes will be an enormous help.

Following on from the Pinterest suggestion, get her and your son to go try rings/shapes on. Not to buy locally unless you’re lucky enough to have a Ps vendor nearby but to see what she likes on her hand.. it may not be the same as what she likes in pictures.

Yes, in fact they were over this am, and this girl doesn’t know a diamond from a hole in the wall.... she’s a sweetheart, Buddhist, non materialistic, but she still wants a really good quality ring. I don’t blame her, but I hope she wears it. Anyway, I told them to go to the mall to try rings on. Still doesn’t know what shape.
My son wants me involved, I don’t want to overstep any boundaries, but I would love to help. I showed her some shapes on line, she needs to look in person....oy

Is that budget all-in, just for setting or just for stone? There are a range of prices for Ritani settings, and the more elaborate styles (for which I think they are most known) could eat up a good chunk of his budget, so be aware as you guide him

Being a guy, I'd prefer to get the biggest diamond in a simple solitaire since he has no direction and she has no preference. Later, after she gets used to the idea of a ring they can upgrade the setting on an anniversary when/if she ever decides she wants something different.
