Hi all!

First, I want to say this website has been extremely helpful in my search for a diamond. The threads have already answered plenty of questions to help me narrow down my "wants."

I need some help choosing between a couple diamonds and would appreciate any input.

First diamond:
Color: H
Clarity: SL1
Polish/Symmetry: Excellent
Carat: 1.0
Cut: Excellent (IGI)
HCA Score: 1.5
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...h-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3169086

This diamond looks eye-clean and is a pretty fair price all considered. (Correct me if im wrong). My only concern with it is that it appears to be a weaker "H" and my plan was to put it in a platinum/halo setting. From what i've gathered, the color grades are little overblown when seen at actual size, with an ideal cut and face-up.

The second diamond below is a little pricier, with a higher color grade...but the video lighting just seem off -- like the light is duller or the image not as clear. However the HCA grade is an amazing 1.1 (the highest i've seen in my eyeclean/size/price constraints).

Color: G
Clarify: SL1
Excellent Polish/VG Symmetry
Cut: Excellent (GIA)
HCA score: 1.1

Can someone help me compare the two? Is this is a difference in lighting? Is the second diamond just less 'brilliant'? Or am i going crazy from staring at too many diamonds :shifty:?

The 2nd diamond has better specs (if you overlook the symmetry) and the face-up view shows all the arrows, which seems like a good sign to me. However, the first diamond does seem to have more sparkle in the video.

I had a 3rd diamond in consideration that is a little more expensive as i'd be paying for the clarity grade at H-VS2 (also has VG symmetry). I've seen the idealscope on this one and it looks great minus some light leakage due to the symmetry. I havent seen idealscope for the other two yet. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...h-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3206098

No to both for me.
1. IGI diamond - not recommended as their grading is not consistent and usually looser on color. Also, the proportions are outside of the preferred range.
2. The diamond definitely lacks transparency and appears dull, most likely due to the cloud inclusions.

Here is a super-ideal diamond that is within budget: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/d...1.078-i-vs2-round-diamond-ags-bl-104094643003

BGD has a sale until tomorrow - 10% off with wire pmt (7% off w/ CC). The blue fluorescence will help the color in most lighting environments and in general here is very slim difference between an H and an I.

Thanks! i appreciate the feedback. I had the same concerns over IGI but thought the HCA score outweighed those concerns.

The one you linked to is a little out of budget range. Was hoping to keep the price (w/ setting) to around 7k. The one you linked to w/ a halo/platinum setting comes out to over >$8k. Of course this is based on having everythign done by BG.

JA has a sale ending today that includes a setting I really liked for $1400

Also -- any thoughts on the 3rd one i linked to?

Agreed - @Joekam - put the stones you like on hold now!! It costs nothing to do and gives you a little time to decide!

I was about to post the G/SI1 -- love this stone!

I strongly recommend the OP to have JA put this stone on hold.... like now..

Done :)

Thanks all! I can't overstate the relief your input has on my process.

Awesome! I see you mentioned a halo setting...which is the one you're considering?

Great.

Now ask JA the followings
-request the idealscope image to check light return
-ask if there is any negative effect from strong fluo, such as oiliness or haziness
-ask if the stone is eye clean

It's what I know she's looking for. I have fallen in love with the setting too through my search!

That diamond you all suggested was everything i was looking for. Great brilliance, right color, size and price (for peace of mind). I had been ruling out florescence due to some bad advice, but i've since read up on it and have no qualms about it.

In case you all were curious...

Looks amazing!

Yum. :lickout:

Did you ask them to confirm it is eye-clean and is not hazy?

I did. They said it was Eyeclean and said no issues with the fluorescence. Said it was "incredibly clean"

The worst case you can return with no obligation.
If you like it, a well cut 1.0c G SI1 under 5k. It is a steal

And you get 25% on the setting.:dance::dance:

Yup! I was really hoping to find a good diamond on JA w/ that sale for the setting. Made it easier to shop for a *better* diamond and stay within budget

Beautiful Joe!

What a gorgeous ring! It looks wonderful on her hand. Congratulations on your engagement! Wishing you much happiness always!

P.S. For cleaning - warm water, dawn blue and a soft baby toothbrush - works like a charm ;)

It looks beautiful! Congratulations on your choice, and your engagement!

@ac117 Wanted to share some pics of the ring! Can't say how thankful I am to get everyone's help on the forum. The diamond is unbelievably sparkly . Now i just need to research how to keep it that way (cleaning and such)!
