Solitaire Lovers- BGD Grace.

After way too long, I''ve been making some progress with what I want for my engagement ring. I never really wore jewelry (except for the Tiffany Mesh ring) before so I wasn''t sure what I really liked, what it would look like or what to look for. I''ve decided that I need/want a solitaire for my engagement rings. However, I have a couple questions for you ladies and gentlemen.

Do you prefer a high or low set profile? Why? I''ve read that there are pros and cons to both.

What size width/thickness do you prefer for the shank? 2 mm, 2.5 mm, 3 mm.

This is the solitaire which I am drawn to the most.

The width of the band is 2.0mm and the thickness is approx 1.7-1.8 mm. I can alter this but obviously that would be considered a more custom setting with an added price (I''m open to change and an increased price).

I think you have to try some on and see what works best for you. Personally I prefer a lower profile and a thinner band but this is just personal preference...many people like a higher profile because the diamond "stands out" more, or a thicker band because they like the look of more metal. It really just depends on what you like the best!

Yup, you need to go try some on for sure.

I prefer a lower - but not too low - profile for practical and stylistic reasons. Sort of a medium height? Too high and I bang it which is not practical, or it just looks like it is "sticking up" and I don''t like that look. Too low and it seems to me to get a little lost - almost becomes too practical!

And I prefer shanks between 2.5 - 3 mm; though thinner shanks are popular on PS. I just like the look of a slightly wider band over a thin one as well as the feel of it (at least for an engagement ring and/or wedding ring). While I have quite small hands, too delicate of a ring just does not fit my personality!

It all depends too on whether you plan to wear a band with it, and what your intention is there.

I agree it would be a good idea for you to try on solitaire rings so you can get an idea of what looks and feels "right" to you. Additional factors to consider may be the size of your hand and length of your finger, whether you intend to wear your engagement ring daily or only on occasion, and if you''ll be wanting to match up with a wedding band. My wedding band is 7mm wide (matches my husband''s) and I wear it most of the time. Sometimes I match it up with one of two engagement rings, each of which are less than 3mm and both of which I received later in my marriage. I don''t think I would have chosen the thinner width if it was to be a stand-alone ring for a long engagement period. For both practicality and aesthetics, I prefer a medium set profile. I prefer a medium to highish profile, and a thin band (around 2 - 2.2mm). Just be aware that some people have a hard time finding wedding bands to go with the Grace and other lower profile settings.

I have the Grace setting; in fact, mine was the first one made by BGD. I love the low profile and the 2mm shank.

I know some people have expressed difficulty trying to find a wedding band to complement it... I have to say that I haven''t had that problem. I have a fishtail pave w-ring made by WF a few years back that works well with it, plus I had a (plain plat) custom wedding band made by BGD at the same time as the Grace ring, which is, in fact, my favorite look and the way I wear them 99% of the time.

BGD could always custom make whatever you want to match the thickness and depth of the solitaire.

oh Lynn, do you have photos of your ring posted somewhere? I have a low profile 2mm and I''m having a hard time finding a band that sits flush... nothing even close. Every jeweler I''ve seen wants to raise my prongs!

Note, though, that NO wedding ring will sit flush with the Grace setting as it was designed for me. The small donut under the culet prevents that. But that was how I asked for it to be made, because I wanted a small gap between the rings. My old WF fishtail pave set was specially made to sit flush, and I found that I MUCH preferred the way the rings looked when they were slightly askew/apart, so I made a point to request the donut for the Grace setting.

I have the Grace, and love it! I had my shank width increased to 2.5mm, as I prefer my rings a lil more on the substantial side..couldn't be happier

mine is med height and 2 mm; I love being able to stack a bunch of different thin bands with it...
