Hi Pricescopers! :wavey:

TGIF! :-) I'm curious to know if anyone has soldered their rings together? Is it easy to separate them if in the future I want them separate or need to upgrade? If anyone can shed some more light on this subject it would be greatly appreciated.

:)

I have and it is :)

I never wear my rings separate and thought it would be a good idea so that I don't lose one. Did you have to get your rings sized up? I am bigger in the knuckle and have to wiggle each on right now probably due to the little bit of baby weight I gained.

I think the rule of thumb is a wider ring should be about half a size bigger. Mine were stackers and super thin, so I'm ok - I interchange the finger based in swelling ;)

Just make sure you use a trusted jeweler and state you'd like them undone at a later date

Thanks! I do have a jeweler I trust and he did a great job with my custom band. :)

I have had mine soldered and unsoldered and when they took them back apart I couldn't tell that it was ever done..so you should be fine and I agree with Mico if the rings are a tad wider then go up about a half a size, I didn't have to because like her's mine were pretty thin to begin with.

Great thank you!

It drives me nuts that my rings aren't aligned and this will definitely take care of it. I wish I had the other band for the other side, but I'll have to wait patiently for an anniversary or something.

I don't hear much about soldering, has it gone to the wayside?

... You think it's tacky.

I think there are time when it's a good idea. Some when it's not needed. Sounds like it would work for you. :)

I like the idea of wearing mine separate. But if you'll never do that why not?

Plus I mean who's going to know besides you?

Tacky? I think it's practical, if one wears always the same rings as a set. If they are soldered together, it holds each ring stationary so that it can't scrub against any other ring and wear away metal or detail.

That's incredibly rude, closeminded and judgmental.

OP: I have my rings soldered together and I love them. I love having my rings always lined up perfect and having 1 ring as opposed to 3. Go 1/2 bigger than your normal ring size and go to a good jeweler. I originally took my rings to Jared's and they did a terrible job soldering my rings together. I then took it to a highly recommended jeweler who took my rings apart and resoldered them and they did an amazing job! Best of luck. :)

you're ring was exactly what I was thinking of when I saw this thread. You're ring look amazing. Micro I wouldn't have even guessed yours were. So clearly it can be done well

FYI, here are mine. I recently took pictures of them.

I finally had my unusual rose gold wrap soldered to one of my diamond rings. (This "ring guard" is kind of a rustic carved celtic knot frame design containing no gemstones. I happened to see it in the case of the jeweler who designed and made it and it happened to fit my ring).

I liked the look so much that I wore that diamond ring no other way, and the movement, spinning and alignmnent issues were infuriating.

Soldered together, the ring now is very comfortable and looks better, too. Usually I am not a fan of soldering as I like the idea of separate rings and having options, but I think in some cases it is a very wise choice. I'm glad I did it.

OP asked for opinions. I think it's okay for @heididdl to make that opinion known. If she thinks it's tacky that's just how one person feels and we should be able to state so without being called out for it. I'm not a fan either but now I don't want to agree that it looks (whispers that ta--y word) for fear of getting mauled in the all the cat scratch fever.

I don't think it's tacky. And I don't see why tacky even applies. My mom did this to her original set and her reset as well. She did get the rings sized larger because she planned to do it. You can't tell when she's wearing them that they are soldered together (it's only at two points), it prevents rubbing and when she isn't wearing them there's only one ring to keep track of. It works for her and that's all that matters.

I like to switch things up. I stack my wedding band with different bands, so I haven't done it. But I certainly see don't see anything wrong with someone deciding this was the right choice for them.
