here are the specs
1.66 carat
measurements - 7.62 X 6.76 X 4.01 mm
Depth % - 59.3%
Table - 66%
Girdle - Very Thin to Slightly Thick
Culet - none
Polish - Very Good
Symmetry - Very Good
Clarity - VSII
Color Grade - H

This is through a B&M store....which is not near me. I cannot see the stone, which is already set with beading around the side...very thin band...looks good. asking about $12k.

Now I know that the specs above are pretty good (for some reason i would prefer to see VS1)...seems to be a mix of Class 1B and some 2A numbers.

What else should I consider asking for from the seller? Is it reasonable to ask for an ideal scope shot to ensure that this will be a decent diamond...since I can''t hold it in my hand and see it myself?

Thanks for any input...this site is great.

I''m also in the market for an emerald cut diamond, so your post just "blinged" at me!

What is your preference as for shape? This stone is going to be more square-shaped, as the ratio is 1.13:1. I prefer a more elongated shape (1.3-1.4).

It is "said" that it should be Depth > table, but without the seeing the stone, this is hard to say. The percentages are in a good range. I''ve heard as VS2 can be clean depending on the type of flaws (a feather versus a indent) and if the flaw is off to the side versus in the center. "H" color may be a little colored, but again, without seeing the stone, it''ll be hard to say...

Can the jeweler email you pix of the ring from different angles? This may help! Let me know what you find out...like I said, I''m in the same market!!!

"very thin" girdle may not take much wear. If you don't mind changing the stone - insurance might represent reasonable "cure" though.

The picture doesn't show much of the diamond, but it does show a flat crown - if anything this does not improve on durability (the oposite, perhaps).

With the reasonable depth, this stone has the expected size and might as well be brilliant - who knows ? There's no way to tell from the picture.

Since so many ECs are overly deep and allot more "flat faced" (70%-ish table & more) - this one deserves close inspection. Do you have a chance to see it ? Iscope anyone ?

How about the setting ? What are the black flecks hanging over the left side of the ring in pic #2 ? The small diamond accents should be really small (below 1 point ?) and the little pronga holding them look uneven. It could well be that the photos and not the ring need improvement, but a "snag test" (brushing ring againt finger and clothing to make sre the prongs do not catch on) is difinitely in order...

All "IMO", of course. Hope some helps

I know that taking precise photos of jewelry is hard. So all of the little things below could well be just optical illusion.

Where is this ring from ? A private seller might just not have the right camera. From a jewelry shop... I don''t know what to believe

I noticied some of the things that you saw. These are digital pictures of pictures....so not the best quality. Not sure if that accounts for some of the distortion. I will try to post some better pictures.
