So I found a preloved tiff ebay reseller. Thoughts?

Hi PSers

So I haven't officially ordered my memoire yet and I was browsing ebay. I found a tiffany ring that I was interested in and had been emailing a seller about. Which then ultimately led me to their store website.

Anyway, couple questions for ebayers!

How important is it to have 100% feedback. There is only one negative comment. In over 400 comments.

He has an appt only store and it's a little bit of a hassle to get too. If I have an opportunity to view up front should I do that?

He has three items I am interested in. Two are on ebay and listed on his website store and the third is only on the website store. They both offer a 14 day return policy. Is purchasing through ebay safer or both should be safe since they both offer 14 returns? I would use cc through Paypal on both the regular website and ebay if I should.

He claims they are authentic Tiff pieces and encouraged me to take them to the store after purchase.

Finally. I have been searching and searching for the tiff shared prong preloved in my size and he has one but it is 1/4-1/2 size too small and is a plat/18k version. I was looking for an all plat. What are your thoughts on the look of this vs all plat? Do you think it would mix well with other stackers that are all Plat? http://m.tiffany.com/Mobile/Shopping/Item.aspx?fromGrid=1&sku=GRP06628&mcat=&cid=&search=1

What does the negative say? I always check because sometimes people will leave a neg for the smallest of reasons. Usually people who are quite new to ebay and have unrealistic expectations about delivery or turn around time etc

hathalove -

I had this one from The Facets Collection. It's slightly larger and I know that Facets will make it in yellow gold if you ask. They will also make it with slightly smaller diamonds if you ask, which should be cheaper. I sold mine eventually, or I'd post some photos. Given that it's new, and over 2k cheaper, it might be worth considering. I bought mine when I was also thinking about the Tiffany one. The difference between the two was not noticeable to my eye.

ETA - sorry - I just saw that you are interested in all platinum. Mine was all platinum and it was lovely and VERY comparable to the Tiffany one I tried on, which was also all platinum.

I'd keep looking for the all platinum style. Maybe you'll regret getting yellow gold later. Good deals are not good deals unless you find exactly what you want.

I am very much in favor of buying pre-loved Tiffany and believe that it is safe with platinum items from a seller with a high feedback rating. I am not concerned about 1 negative with 400 ratings. I do like 99%+, personally.

I would wait for the all platinum and prefer my exact size so I don't have the hassle or cost of Tiffany resizing (and they are the only ones I would let do it). But it is okay to resize one that is close to your size.

Thanks everyone. I realized as soon as I made this post that I wanted all plat. I was just excited that I found a possibility and a possible good seller!

Thanks Maisie~ It was for a minor description discrepancy in actual size of a pendent I think? I think it said 5/8 inch and it was actually 1/2 inch. Buyer was upset.

Mrs-Blop thank you for the facets suggestions. I am pretty ready to pull the trigger on a memoire band in all plat that I actually saw in person its just that I like the Tiffany more I guess. The memoire is lovely and a fantastic price. I just can't bring myself to pay retail for the Tiffany version.

Sakurancherry :) You are right! I do want all plat and I have to either order the darn memoire band and move on or wait for a plat tiff to come up. I would hate to buy this two tone one and then regret it. It isn't what I want and plus I am stacking with rose gold. I am so OCD it would probably drive me crazy. HA!

Thanks DS for commenting! I know you have done and watched this over and over again  I don't know why I am stalling on the order of my memoire. John has been such a pleasure to work with and he has answered every single email! I even went to my local store to try them on again. They are beautiful! Something keeps calling me back to the tiffany. I am exactly a 5.75 and a 5.5 on cold days, usually purchase in a 6 but they only make half and whole sizes. They suggested that I just buy the 6 but I have this feeling it will rock and roll... if it does that I will want it sized down a bit. The SA there said go down from a 6 not up from a 5.5. She also seemed to think because they were stacked that the 6 would be great in the long run. I was there with dh so she could have been just trying to push the sale.

I had a half eternity sized down by Tiffany's a few years ago. While the ring looks ok when worn, it's not the perfect circle anymore. I guess it was not a good idea to have a 5.5 sized down to a 3.5.

Hi!
I would wait to get the ring in all platinum. Someone will eventually put if up for sale. The one neg feedback wouldn't bother me at all either. Especially if they have a return policy.
As far as sizing, only get it done at Tiffany's. When they size it looks perfect, you would never know that the ring was ever resized. At least that has been my experience. They do charge more but I think it's worth it.
But I would not get a ring, especially with diamonds, sized down by more than 1/2 a size. It's too risky, especially rings that are channel and prong set. I've had Tiffany's size up my wedding bands and my shared prong, bc my finger size had grown over the years, but never size down.

It's one of my pet peeves when I get something resized and the work is sloppy. Either you can see the sodder line, its uneven, there are bubbles or they thin out the metal. Tiffany's does it perfectly and this is especially important for platinum.

I have wanted the diamond by the yard in rose gold for a few months now (close to a year) and was planning on purchasing it directly through Tiffany's in June if one didnt show up. I wanted to get the .17 ct size, which is their largest in RG. 17 is my favorite number. I thought about getting one from BGD, but I really like the way Tiffany's does their bezels. So perfect. I had a RG BGD dbty bracelet and sold it for a Tiffany one instead. They use a fatter bezel on the RG for some reason and I am picky about bezels as well. I hate wonky bezels or uneven bezels.

Anyway, I digress, but those are two of my pet peeves- bad resizing jobs, crooked bezels and I want to add really bad milgrain.

Well, last week, I finally found one on eBay. I have seen other smaller sizes over the past few months and I was very tempted to bid, but like mrssalvo always says- a deal is only a deal if you are getting exactly what you want. This was the only .17 I have seen on EBay.

So, I got the necklace on Friday and love it.

Wait for what you want, eventually it will show up.

And don't post what you want or add a link to it until the deal is done. Other people are also looking for the same thing and you may go into a bidding war with another PSer.

I have posted things I wanted to purchase with zero bids and right after posting them, they had a few watchers and bids. So be careful.

Excellent advice, Butterfly! I agree with everything you said regarding sizing! Congrats on finding the rose gold DBTY!

I am a lone dissenter. Id either get it made elsewhere for less or buy the real deal at full price in your size. You sound like you're wanting to buy in a reasonably short timeline, so get what you want in your size.

Wait so you all are suggesting that I size up vs down with Tiffany? Meaning if I want a 5.75 I should buy a 5.5 to size up vs a size 6 to size down? Pretty sure when I was in Tiffany they said to buy a size 6 and they would size it down if I really wanted to.

Butterfly~ I know what you mean about pet peeves. I have found over time that I have become very picky etc about bezels, prongs and overall construction. I think this is why I ended up returning my solitaire. Something was off and I couldn't figure it out but I knew it was going to bug me so no thanks to that stress. Thanks for sharing your story. It helps!

My new mantra for today at least :) A deal is only a deal if you are getting exactly what you want.

Ame~ Believe me I keep going back and forth on this one. That is why I have held off on the Memoire. I know it is between these two rings. I would save quite a bit going with Memoire of course. I do like the idea of going into Tiffany and having them check the prongs etc... but damn .27 for $3800 plus tax!! or .56 for $5100 plus tax. The construction however is perfect! Nothing I don't like about this ring. Part of the problem is I look at how else I could spend that money. I mean I could get another solitaire and a bracelet or something. Or hell the memoire and a trip to BALI. HA! There is no rush but the rush I put on myself when I really want something. I may practice the Butterfly technique and give myself some time to search and practice containment. I have never made a big purchase with Ebay so I am proceeding with caution for sure.

Hathalove,
I think part of the problem or reason why I do purchase preloved and/or a well known designer is bc I ALWAYS find something wrong.
Even if it's brand spanking new, I just find things wrong.
I know, there's obviously something wrong with me. I am also one of those who takes care of my stuff really well. I had a ring sent to Ritani to have an extra diamond added and the rep from Ritani told me my ring looked brand new. He commented that he wish his wife took the same care with her jewelry.
So I feel better when I purchase preloved bc even if I do find something wrong, I am okay with it (for the most part but if its really bad I return it) bc I know I didn't pay full price. It would be awful if I paid full price for something and found something wrong. I am just really really picky. I actually feel sorry for some of the companies I worked with.

I have found very few companies that make quality (for me) jewelry, but Tiffany's, Bev K, Simon G, Vatche are some that do. I am talking about "loupe" perfect. Like Frankietexas (is that her name) VC perfect.

About your other comment, I purchased my tiffany shared prong band from Tiffany's in a size 5, which they recommended, and then they resized it to a 5.25. The ring came in a 5 or 5.5 and they had both sizes in stock (we purchased it from the one on 5th Ave.) , but I was told by the sales lady that it was better to size up rather than down because when you size down you risk the prongs separating, the metal cracking and the diamonds getting loose. She also said I shouldn't size it more than 1/2 a size larger in the future.

I don't know if the experts on here would agree with that. Its just what i was told. I had a Ritani pave setting sized down from an 8 to a 5.25 and it was done perfectly, but I had the ring sent to Ritani. It came back with a new stamp and everything.

Maybe it just depends on the designer. I honestly think a size 6 to a 5.75 is fine.

Thank you for sharing this really!!! I always find things wrong too. Like I tried to buy a copy of the perlee and those wonky balls drove me mad. So my DH surprised me for my bday last year and got me not only the real thing but also my trinity! I enjoy those each and every day!!!

About the sizing I usually buy all my rings in a 6 as they are just comfortable a little loose that way. Honestly when it warms up 6 fits perfect and when stacked even a tiny snug so maybe its best? I was worried about spinning but I can also wear it on my right hand should my fingers shrink or if its really cold...?

Is there a way I can send you an email? I was looking on preloved as I thought you posted recently something for sale but just couldn't find anything. Do you mind if I email you?

DS~ I send you a private message through loupetroop! I really hope you don't mind.

Thanks! I actually need to thank you for two things. I couldn't decide what to put in my bedroom and I remembered the favorite room thread so I looked at your bedroom and ordered the same Chad Barrett butterfly Giclee prints. 5 of them from art.com. Four in my bedroom and one by the foyer.

Unfortunately they didn't have the scripted papillon one, the light green single butterfly, but I did get a tiny tiny one from Khol's, which apparently came from art.com as well bc it was in one of their boxes and framed exactly like the others.

I also ordered his peacock portraits in canvas for the dining room.

Sorry for the threadjack.

I love his work.
