I first posted back in July, asking about reset vs upgrade options. This is my original thread. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/reset-or-upgrade.91100/ Here I am several months later still wondering what I should do. I''ve gone round and round, thinking about different styles and have finally decided on 2 options that I just can''t choose between. I would like to present these two options to Hubby and let him decide.

My original post had suggestions of doing a 3 stone ring and I really did give that a lot of consideration. I even bought a cheapy 3 stone ring that I wore around for a while. I loved the profile of this particular ring but just decided the 3 stone wasn''t for me. I also gave a lot of thought to doing a saphire center stone but in the end decided that I''d really rather have a diamond and incorporate the saphire in a band.

Twice now I have contacted Sarah at GOG and she is the sweetest person ever. I decided I wanted an oval and contacted her to see if she could point me in the right direction, given the budget that I had. Ultimately, I would love to have an oval. However, I''m starting to think that at this point it would be better to just do the reset. How do you guys handle working with someone so nice and then not getting something from them? I have major guilt!

So here are my two options I''m going to present Hubby with. Bear with me, as I''m gonna have to provide a lot of links.

1. Use my center stone in a setting like this http://www.faycullen.com/diamond_ring_settings/500/967m2d.html I don''t want the band to be an eternity style though, just like 3/4 so that I could resize in the future if needed. My stone is .50 (I think, I haven''t had it appraised ever. Just going from what I''ve been told.) If you scroll down on the FC site you can click on the link that shows the profile of the center stone and I would like to have it more like this one with a halo around it. http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=213&rn=1099&action=show_detail However, I want the center stone to be bezel and then the halo to show face up and on the side. Does that make sense? Then I''d flank each side with a thin 3/4 eternity band.

2. Use my center stone in this type of setting. http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=213&rn=848&action=show_detail With the bezel around the stone and then halo on top and side again. Then I''d add this BevK band http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/beverley-k-jewelry/rings/ (it''s style 04PP1, with saphires) and also a super thin (1.7 maybe?) 3/4 eternity band.

So...where do I go from here? I''d like to give Hubby options as far as where to proceed to. Would I just choose a vendor and then send them my stone? Yikes! That feels scary, to think about sending my stone in! And do the styles I am looking at paired with the custom envolvement look like they could be done on a slim budget given that I would be providing the center stone? (Slim as in about $2000?)

Thanks for putting up with all my questions! I hope someone can at least point me in the right direction.

Hmmmm, did I maybe post this question in the wrong forum?

Yeah, it''s probably better in Rocky Talk. But just use the REPORT CONCERN button under your post and ask admin to move it there. They would be happy to.

Thanks neatfreak! :)

No one?

Aww Margo, do not feel bad! Thank you for the compliment as well

All that I am going to say is that i love the second option because it will make the .50 Oval look bigger than if you put it in a ring that was the same length as the Oval. Does that make sense? I like the first ring but i love the second one. And the band would look lovely beside it. Many different vendors have access to antique style rings like that.

Thanks Sarah. I appreciate your reply. :) The holiday''s have been so crazy for me and I just got to thinking that I would look to see who replied to my questions. Apparently no one has any input for me. Oh well.

My anniversary is on the 8th and while I highly doubt hubby has gone out and gotten me something sparkly I''m still sort of holding out just to make sure. If he hasn''t then I think I''ll just start saving for the upgrade on my own. Just stash some money away. Ultimately, I think I''d love to do the oval and when I''m ready I''ll be sure to let you know. You''ve been incredibly helpful and I really appreciate it! In the meantime, I have an idea that my budget will just allow a new band and possibly a halo/new setting for my current diamond. I have no idea where to go to do that. There just seem to be so many options online and it''s a bit overwhelming for me!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for a proserous new year! :)

MY vote is for #2 with your sone, very very pretty!

Thanks tlh!

So..today is anniversary #15! I''ll be with this man till the day I die. I love him! He''s not at all a jewelry buyer and I know that but every year I hope maybe he''ll change his mind. lol So, he got me a new computer for Christmas so that I could do my editing (I''m a photographer) and I didn''t at all expect something sparkly for our anniversary. Well, I got it. Kind of. :)

He gave me a card, with 15 $100 bills in it to go towards my new ring. Just knowing that he is officially ok with me getting something new and contributing to it is huge! HUGE! I was a seamstress in my former life and have a ton of fabric to get rid of so I think I may take the next month to see what I can make doing that and put it with my new ring money stash.

Anyway, I''m on my way! I can''t wait to have something new and sparkly on my finger!

I like option 2 and I''m thinking you should be able to get it done for $2k but not really sure. BTW, nice present from
your hubby!!! Option 1 just seems like it is pretty busy (with the floral ring, halo and bezel). Let us know what you
decide and definitly post pictures when its all done!

Hi Margo!

I''m going to dissent and say I like #2, because I think it is a classic design that you will be able to live with for a long time to come, and you will be able to get good workmanship in your budget, esp if you are willing to go w/ something in WG or Palladium. I''m guessing -- hoping? -- that the 2K budget is for the setting alone, because I don''t see how you will be able to do all 3 rings for under 2K, unless you happen on some great clearance deals.

My 2 cents! Good luck and hope to see your new setting soon!

Thanks guys! I think I''ve definitely decided on option 2. ;)

I kind of think that what I might do is spend this money on the bands. I''ll wear them now with my solitaire while saving for the reset of the diamond. I was hoping to find someone who could do the bands for less than the link I provided. I don''t want them full eternity style so I hope they''ll be a bit less than the advertised prices. ???? Any recommendations for who I should approach to custom make the bands? Should I use the same person for the bands that I will ultimately use for the reset?
