..have a wedding set that actually retails for more than their diamond?

I just realized today with all the resetting I did, my wedding set (ering setting and wedding band) would be pricier to replace than my actual diamond. I was always one of those girls that argued it made more sense to put most of the funds towards the rock, heh, oops..

To be fair, DH and I are rather sentimental about the diamond, so given that I wasn't going to be changing that, all I could do was upgrade the stuff around it. And at the time, most of his budget did go towards the diamond since the original setting was a simple 14k solitaire. Still, feels a little silly sometimes.

I think in cases where you would never upgrade the stone it makes sense.. ;)

The amount I've spent resetting my stone just to be in a safe and wearable setting far exceed the amount I paid for this diamond.

Well, I have a sapphire so yeah, since the setting has a lot of pave. I guess if you count the diamond side stones in with the sapphire, then the e-ring and wedding band match those in price, as they were about half of the cost.

To my mind the stuff that holds the stone - i.e. the ring - is as much a part of the overall ring and symbolism as the stone itself, so... I don't see this as a dilema.
