A couple of theaters around here have become lax when it comes to enforcing the no outside food rule. Out of curiosity, though, who sneaks food into the movies and what do you sneak in? hahaha

We let the kids have doritos and we bring our own waters in (we never get soda).
DH and I normally do not bring anything in for ourselves (with the kids in tow, we don''t eat and when we''re out alone, we go out to eat beforehand).

There was a recent thread on this, not sure of the title. But yeah we always sneak in food and bottled water!!!

What I do is, go to CVS (drugstore) before the film and get the biggest box of Junior Mints I can find and a large bottle of Fiji water.

I hide them in my purse. Then once we get to the theater DH orders us a large tub of popcorn with hot butter.

Then while it''s still hot, I mix in all the junior mints.

And it''s heaven. Pure, minty chocolatey, buttery, melted heaven.

Ha ha, we do too. I sneak in sandwiches for the grandboys too.

Sometimes we do, sometimes not. I have no problem doing it.

I have noticed that a certain theater that is located right next to a gas station dropped their candy prices to compete with the gas station. Saves me a trip to the gas station ;)

I don''t sneak anything in. It''s the only time I eat hot popcorn and nothing else will do. Plus, there is a pizza hut next to the cinema...
We don''t go very often (hardly ever, I suppose) which is the only reason I''m not 3x my current size. I love cinema popcorn!

:-) I don''t usually eat anything. When I was in High school we always brought Twizzlers

My grandmother and her friends who are all very well off always make micorwave popcorn at home, put it in plastic gorcery bags, hide it under ther coats, and take it, along with an arsenal of mints

Thye make a big deal of all the subterfuge...

I''ve been sneaking in food since I was a kid, I can blame it on my Mom, lol. I remember one particular time when I was probably around seven or six, my Mom took me to the movies with one of my friends, we each had a store bought bag of popcorn under our winter coats and we thought we looked like sumo wrestlers. We were still in the movie theater parking lot and we decided to bump bellies like sumos. Well, when we bumped all of the sudden my bag popped and popcorn began spilling out of the bottom of my coat! It was one of the funniest moments ever. We turned the bag around inside my coat and carried on with the popcorn.

To this day I''m one of those people who carries a big purse and will bring anything and everything into a movie. When I saw Sex and the City we made cosmos, had them all ready ion a container and brought out our martini glasses. Usually it''s me and the Hubby and whatever naughty fast food we want, I''m actually not a big fan of the usual theater food.

Is this why Americans are getting fat? Because we can't sit still for 2 hours without food?

Luckily my kids didn't like soda or candy but the husband had to get buttered popcorn in a bucket so big our hands would get greasy up to the wrist!! You can't bring that from home!

I mentioned this in the other thread, but I think it is really important to buy at least one thing from the concession stand--no matter how small. The reason is because movie theaters make virtually no money off of ticket sales; their money comes from selling food and drinks. This is why these items are so expensive. And believe me, I understand! I went to the movies the other day and spent almost $10 for a large drink and small popcorn. Considering that the ticket for the movie was $7.50, the prices are definitely ridiculous. But sneaking in your own stuff is basically stealing. It hurts the cinema and keeps prices high for everyone else. So if I can swing at LEAST a small soda, I try to do just that.

Well, it would account for why I''m getting fat, for sure.

I can''t go to a movie without getting popcorn. As hard as I try, once I get a whiff of the salty, buttery goodness it''s all over!

Ooops, sorry about repeating a question!

I don't see sneaking food in as stealing because if we didn't bring in our own food, we wouldn't buy any at all. It's not like I'm taking away from their revenue by bringing in my own water because I'd either bring in my own or go without. I wouldn't spend $4.00 for a bottle of water, when instead I could spend $6.99 on a flat of 24 Aquafina waters and just drink one of those before going in. Oh, and since there are four in my family, if DH and I shared a water and the kids each shared a water, that's $8.00 on water alone.

ETA - okay, arrest me. . .I admit I'm a horrible movie patron
6.gif

The last Movie we went to, no one was eating food. Seriously. I felt guilty chomping on my popcorn, as it''s a tad noisy....Whoops!!

But I hear you on the theaters losing money, etc.. Perhaps they should lower the prices on their food just a bit?

threadjack, but am I the only person who drinks tap water? Is there something I should know about it?

Ours tastes really nice. I don''t know if that should worry me - is water supposed to have a taste?!

To continue your tJ: I don't generally drink tap water because I live in an old house, and have had the opportunity
2.gif
to see what the inside of the water pipes look like! I'm not dogmatic about it though... in most circumstances I'll drink tap water without a second thought, though I do put my trust in Brita filters at home and at work.

Back on topic, I lurve me some theater buttered popcorn! I might "sneak in" some snacks I happen to have at home, but I don't make a special trip to the store to pick up theater goodies.

Then again, I don't have kids. I'm not sure what I'd do if I had two or three kids in tow.

I didn''t know that theatres only make money from concessions until I read the last thread about this topic. So . . .

Before then, we used to sneak in water and homemade chocolate chip cookies. Sometimes I''d make popcorn at home and sneak that in, as well.

Since I learned that they make their only money off of concessions, we''ve started buying something whenever we see a movie. But, we still sneak in the water and cookies, too.

We go to the movies a lot, probably every one to two weeks. We love movies.

We drink water from our tap after it''s been filtered through a Brita filter.

We are very much opposed to buying bottled water, as the waste from bottled water is unbelievably horrible for the environment. Merely recycling the bottles after you use them does not make up for the damage their production is doing to our world.

VRBeauty, I live in an old house too. Hmm. Maybe that''s what gives our tap water its very special taste?!
14.gif

Haven, maybe I should dig out our brita filter. I used to use one, but got out of the habit. I''m bone idle and it was one more thing to clean.

Hmmmm, I'm thinking an afternoon movie is in order tomorrow...

Every party has a pooper, that's why we invited you-sa, party pooper

Just kidding

For me, going to the movies is a few hours of non reality. And that means no diet, no baby, no makeup, and no one asking me questions! I love the movies. Can't wait for SATC 2

I'm diabetic and am not afraid to play that card if need be!
11.gif
But really, all I bring in is water. I'm not paying $4.00 for the same water I buy for less than $1.00 at the grocery store. My diet is restricted, so I just sponge a handful of popcorn, no butter, off of my darling daughter. The popcorn is about $7.00. sheesh.
38.gif

ETA: yes I drink tap water, and even tote that, but I can't bring the metal bottle into the theater. I need to have water on hand constantly because of my diabetes.

Me either! The teasers I''ve seen so far have me intrigued!

Lately, I can''t even sit through a whole movie. I get bored and antsy.

...so we just wait to rent our faves when they come out in the Redbox and we only have to pay $1. (I love that machine!) ...and when I''m at home on the couch, I don''t have to worry about parking and crying babies and ringing cell phones! I guess I''m just a jaded movie-goer.
1.gif

If it didn''t cost us as much as a real dinner would cost to get popcorn and two sodas, I might eat it more often at movies. As it is, I never eat during a movie - I found that I have a tendency to overeat when I''m not paying attention, and now that I am pregnant, drinking too much of anything will make me miss part of the movie lol. I''d rather just wait two hours for it to be over and then go to dinner!

I usually will buy popcorn for the kids but bring our own water and candy treat b/c the cost of popcorn is insane enough I''m not paying $4 for a snickers to boot. But, the last time we went was on a tuesday and to my pleasant surprise the theater offers $1 drinks and $1 popcorn every tuesday, so everyone got their own drink and popcorn that night. I do think people might spend more on the concessions if the prices weren''t so insane. We don''t go to the movie theater that often b/c it''s just not what I want to blow money on.

When I go, I take a bag of almonds in my purse. I don''t feel bad at all, b/c the only options are junk and I wouldn''t buy that anyway. So like MC said, I''m not costing the movie theater anything b/c it''s either what I bring in or nothing. However, my husband and son make up for mine since they can''t seem to go to a movie without popcorn...as much as I like the taste, it makes me sick everytime from all the grease/butter so I''m better off sticking to healthy stuff.

We have a heavy duty reverse osmosis sytem installed in our kitchen for all water and I fill up water bottles for most trips in the car (to the park, etc.) and then keep Aquafina if I''m going a place where I don''t want to lug around the bottles.

My water is heavily chlorinated and tastes gross. Once experiencing GREAT water, it''s hard to go back to city water.

Like lucky stated, which is an important point in this thread, food sales is how movie theaters make their profit. I want to keep them in business so I don''t sneak in food. I usually always have a bottle of water in my purse anyways but DH always buys a soda (along with food).
