Smudges on the arrows?

I have here an ACA VS2 and it looks great, but once i put it in a H&A viewer, I see smudges. Looks like graphite dust? Might have to view the arrows image at full size to see it. I've also included the AGS plot.

Kind of disappointed that I would see this on an ACA. The inclusions causing this?

This may be a dumb question, but have you cleaned the diamond thoroughly?

I was wondering this myself :) I don't think its the inclusions, but either the diamond or the viewer looks dirty.

Yes, definitely make sure the diamond is clean. I was looking at my diamond through the hearts and arrows viewer one night, and noticed a line going across the entire diamond from prong to prong. It scared me, I thought the diamond was cracked. I cleaned the ring myself, but couldn't get rid of this line. I took the ring to the jeweler first thing the next morning, they cleaned it, the line was gone. I really think it needs a good cleaning.

yes. I have several times gotten a diamond and been disappointed in the performance and even a good scrubbing didn't do the trick. Then after I used my steam cleaner on them they were beautiful!

The diamond is dirty.

It's gone. It was some pretty stubborn dirt!

so...how do you like your diamond?

I just received this (after getting a resize done) and I louped it to find these spots on the stone. I've cleaned it about a dozen times, but the lines that appear on the arrows are so stubborn. Any ideas how do get this off or which area to focus?

I've tried windex, soapy water, brushing with a soft toothbrush/electric toothbrush and it refuses to get better.

The dirty "lines" that are "cutting" into the arrows seems to be mirrored. I'm hoping this is not something permanent?

Diamonds can reflect so it's quite possible that's what you are seeing. Take it to be professionally cleaned, it could be some residue from the setting process that is being stubborn to remove. Lovely stone!

One inclusion reflecting around stone. VS2 grade as long as not seen with the naked eye - it is what you would expect from this grade.

I agree with Pyramid here. I imagine it’s simply reflections of a small inclusion or inclusions. The facets of a diamond, remember, reflect back both directly and indirectly so any inclusion, or even some detritus on the outside of the diamond can appear in multiple places, especially if you look at it in a structured light-separating environment like that H&A viewer and magnify it significantly. Nothing to worry about.

For the record, the stone originally does not have any marks on the stone. This is either a result of a foreign particle of dust or a scratch introduced by the vendor when I sent it back for a resize job.

Looks like dirt on the stone or viewer to me. Can you see it with your naked eye? Seems like a lot of effort as you aren't going to walk around with a loupe or H&A viewer on a daily basis. And a diamond WILL get dirty even if you clean it every day.

VS2 inclusions certainly can show at that level of magnification. One or more of them could be a feather that shows on the report. ACA refers to the cut quality, not the clarity. Unless you buy an IF, VVS, and many VS1's, you can expect to see inclusions with a loupe. Diamonds do not stay perfectly clean all the time, either. I don't really see those marks on your first image, so it may be dirt. I'd have it cleaned by a jeweler and then put away the loupes and H&A viewer. You cannot see that with the eye and the diamond won't be this clean once she wears it anyway, as Charmy said!

Wise words from the ladies above. Diamonds are dirt and grease magnets and you would drive yourself crazy inspecting it all the time for marks. Just keep it clean and loupe occasionally to check it out and that should be fine.
