I am getting a custom bezel eternity band made for my wedding band (3-point RBs in platinum). I know that finger sizes can change over the years, so I asked the vendor to put in two "sizing circles," which are bezels that would be filled with metal instead of diamonds.

My question: will such a circle or circles actually allow the ring to be sized up at all? The vendor had thought I wanted to potentially size the ring down, but I don''t see that my finger is going to get any smaller than it already is. I''ve been told that the circles won''t allow the ring to be sized up--is this the case? Is there any way I''ll be able to make the ring bigger down the line?

For reference, here is a photo of the sizing circle I had in mind (from snlee''s beautiful baby ring!):

A ring such as the one shown can be sized up or down with little problem. Is your design different?

It''s not really different. Mine is being made by a different vendor, with no milgrain, but it is essentially the same. I was going to have two such circles.

What would be involved in sizing it up? I would like to talk to the vendor with a little knowledge about the process.

If you are thinking of sizing up some day why 2 sizing circles since you really only need a place to open up the ring?

A decent jeweler would open up the ring between the stones, in the narrowest place, not through the center of a sizing circle or through a diamond''s bezel setting. You might consider adding all metal sizing segments if you make the ring larger to save money and possibly the sizing up won''t be large enough for an entire circular insertion. You do not need any sizing circles in a design of this type at all.

I have the same ring (but with pink sapphires and rose gold) and they put in a sizing BAR. It is small but they said I should go 2 up/2 down in sizing. I think the ball is more of a style issue and I am jealous and wish I had thought of it.

Thank you so much for your input Oldminer, Swingirl, and Tacori. I am planning to tell the vendor to nix the sizing circle idea and just make the ring a full eternity, and I''ll have a jeweler add metal between the bezels at a later time should the ring need to be made bigger down the line. This will work with this design, right? I hope I have understood correctly.

Bump--just wanted to make sure I understood the advice given =).

That''s what I understand. You don''t need any sizing bar if you are thinking you''d only enlarge it. A jeweler will still be able to open up the ring between two bezel circles and inset a bar of metal.

Perfect--thank you!

I can''t wait for my ring to be done!
