Can it be done? Should it be done? Most rings I''ve tried on are a size 4, which gets over my knuckle without too much trouble but spins madly. A size 3.75 had to be wiggled on and off (much to my consternation!!) and a size 3.5 had to be literally pried off. But neither the 3.75 or 3.5 really spun.

What''s the best way? Sizing beads? A Euroshank? A horsehoe spring? Here''s a link about the spring...

I guess it depends on the jeweler, right?

Sometimes, designer rings come with a "warranty" statement. Any outside work performed on the ring will void the manufacturer''s warranty. Here''s a link to a thread of one example:

If you choose to have the ring resized by someone else, make sure you are using a quality smith.

northstar,

Most rings are made with the expectation that they may need to be sized to fit the final consumer. It''s just too difficult to guess at what their size might be. That said, there are some issues about the design details that can make it complicated and you should check with a skilled jeweler or the manufacturer to see if your particular design has any complications.

In the case of designs with warranty restrictions, this will clearly be spelled out in the warranty documentation. If you don''t have a copy, ring up the store where you bought it and ask them for one. If this is the case, have the manufacturer do the work. The selling jeweler should be able to ship it off to them or, if it''s a big company and you no longer live in the area of the store where you got it, another store that represents that same brand should be able to help.
