I am narrowing dowm my list and might increase my budget to go with a bigger cut. Still looking at AGS0 cuts with a G/H color and vs2/si1 clarity. The jump in budget would be $1600. Is there that much of a visual size diff?

A 1ct could actually be the same size as the .76ct (well, close at least)! Look at the mm measurements...

a 5.5 mm is 21% bigger than a 5 mm

there will be a visual size difference. only you can decide if the difference is worth the extra $$$

From the MM measurements and belle''s photos it is a very obvious size difference.

BUT you won''t be wearing both stones at the same time. So maybe you''ll forget the size difference.

If this were me I''d go with the bigger stone now, but it depends on your money situation and what other expenses you have coming up. You could go with a smaller stone and upgrade later. Of course if you upgrade later you''ll probably get more than a 1ct stone, that''s just the way it works.

That''s not really fair, because the pics you posted we not "actual size" photos. I agree that the naked eye will perceive a size difference between these two stones, but it will not be as exaggerated as the photos suggest.

To get a real life perspective of the size difference, just get a ruler with mm measurements and draw out a 5mm x5mm square, next to a 5.5mm x 5.5mm square (which I just did). To me, the visual difference is great and very obvious, just as JulieN said, a 21% difference (nothing to scoff at). For me, my pick would be the larger stone

but alas it isn''t my money or for me.

That is certainly going to be a large visual difference....Hmmmm....

Can we meet in the middle? GOG has a 1.048 F Si2 ideal 5.5X5.5 It looks stunning and clean...$4684 wire price!
Also, DBOF has a .91 F Si1 stunner 5.43X5.43 $4209 and .95 E Vs1 $4591....Actual shots online...

the photos will be different sizes on different monitors. the point is, there is obviously going to be a size difference. the op will have to decide if the difference is worth it to him.

here is another scaled down version

I think many people find it helpful when posters such as Belle take the time to try to help with examples of size differences, I certainly do anyway.

Hmm. I didn''t mean my comment to be perceived as ungrateful or not appreciative of Belle clearly going to extra mile. When I said "that''s not really fair," what I actually meant was "that''s not really fair to the smaller princess cut". I didn''t meant to imply that *Belle* was doing anything improper or unfair or anything like that.

No worries UDM.

If its 0.5 mm difference, thats barely noticeable unless they were side by side. I mean look at half of a mm, its a tiny difference.

Gosh - I don't want to come across as disagreeing with everyone in this thread

, not my intention, but it is my understanding that half a mm is a large amount in jewellery and diamonds, people often ask about the difference it makes and choose to upgrade to get that extra size difference as once they investigate and compare, it is enough of a visual to invest more $$ in. But it depends on the eyeballs of the viewer of course!
