Last night, as I watched (horrified) my husband nostalgically eat a peanut butter and cheez wiz sandwich (childhood "treat"), it occurred to me to ask: "How on earth did you did you come up with that?" His answer: "I was out of jelly."

:nono:

Yeah, I have to admit I've never heard of that combination!

:knockout: blech! that sounds ... "not appealling"!!!

But I shouldn't judge--- who knew a peanut butter and chocolate combo would be a world wide hit as a Reese's peanut butter cup???

For me it was like. What on earth makes you think, "hmm... what is a good substitute for jelly? I KNOW-- CHEEZ WHIZ!"

And honey? And syrup... and a whole HOST of things that would be been MUCH better than Cheez Whiz!!!! Probably not. It seems that Cheez Whiz is his substitute for Jelly. God only knows why.

Stacy, LOL. No, this is what he used to make for himself as a kid (when he was out of jelly). He just had a craving for it last night (we've been together for 13 years and he's never had one of these in all that time) and decided to whip one up (we normally do not have Cheez Whiz as I am the one who grocery shops, but he went this time and well... this is the result).

Glad you clarified Gypsy--I was gonna ask about the CW..but I didn't think I should push my luck! :saint: You don't seem like the CW "type"! (although I mustadmit having eaten CW on celery some hundred years ago....)

have never try that combo ...

Gypsy.. it's the cat.. and your posts.. I love the look on his face and these kind of posts.. it's like he's saying..
"ARE YOU SERIOUS? Clearly you are a few dixie cups shot of a full sleeve.... "

doesn't sound appealing to me.. I am thinking I would have just gone for plain peanut butter and nothing else over the whiz....

LOL it sounds more like a combo someone partying (with specific psychoactive leafy plant :wink2:) til 4AM comes up with!

Or something my dog would love. All his treats are pb or cheese flavored!

The same thing happened to me when I was a kid except I used mayonnaise and it was disgusting!

Since he is into unusual pb pairings have him try pb and dill pickle. That my fellow psers, especially the ones wrinkling your nose is delicious.

In his defense maybe he thought about those snack crackers that are cheese crackers with pb between and figured if it works there it can work on bread

wow, I am not even sure what to think! lol Girl, you and he should get to the grocery store!

My ADULT husband still regularly packs peanut butter and Fluff sandwiches to work.. :nono:

At least he didn't try to serve it to you. :twirl:

OMG Skippy. That's the best part. We have a FULLY STOCKED fridge right now. He WANTED to eat this. Not had to. I had beautiful steaks, great cold cuts, wonderful salad fixings (including farm fresh heirloom tomatoes, basil, and fresh mozzarella for a Caprese salad), fresh bagels and cream cheese, Ventresca tuna, and A TON OF JAMS AND JELLYS in the fridge.

Oh he tried to get me to eat it. And I even took a SINGLE bite. Fortunately Cheez Whiz apparently doesn't actually taste like cheese (Sharon, you are totally right, I'm not the cheez whiz type and have never actually had it, before yesterday), and all it did was make the peanut butter salty-- so it was like salty peanuts on bread. It was better than I thought it would be, but still lacked anything to actually recommend it as a culinary experience.

Though to be fair, I have my own processed cheesefood issues-- but that's with extra sharp "cheddar" Easy Cheese. But that's his fault too, as I never knew the stuff existed till he introduced me to it. And we do not keep it in the house.

Mayo and peanut butter. Okay. That might just win "worst jelly substitute on a sandwich". LMAO.

Pickles huh? I just (like last week) came around to pickles on hot dogs. I'm not sure I can get to peanut butter. But I will pass it on to DH.

I am normally a cheese snob but my parents would get the Easy Cheese cans when we went on Road trips ever couple of years. I loved it and whenever I see the cans it reminds me of being a little kid and being with my family. With Ritz crackers- yum! You are a brave lady to try your DH's creation!

OH!!! yes, totally weird than! hahaha

SONNYJANE, my hubby loves pb&j sandwiches and will sometimes pack those for lunch; his dad is the same way! My parents never ever gave us pb&j so I don't like the combo. I do like pb&honey.

DH eats pb and bacon. Disgusting....

That actually sounds good.
I used to eat cheese whiz on peanut butter crackers all the time, so did all my friends.

Here is how it started:
had a cracker with PB on it had a cracker with CW on it.
Mashed them together just for fun.
Hey that isn't bad... new food born.

My mother used to give us these 'treats' when we were little - piece of balognie with a spread of peanut butter, then a gherkin pickle rolled up. It was HEAVENLY!!! :lickout:

I had totally forgotten about that...

Oh, wow, Enerchi, I'll have to take your word for this one. I used to eat lots of gherkin pickles when I was a kid but never paired with bologna and peanut butter!

You just have to go for it, and give it a try! Maybe Gypsy's DH is really onto something :)) wasn't it Elvis Presley who liked fried banana And peanut butter sandwiches?? Ya just never know, eh? :D

It must be a man thing, really. In fact, just the other day I caught my DH with a peanut butter and american cheese sandwich. I guess the peanut butter + cheese-like product is not an uncommon combo apparently.

Eeeeewww.... :knockout:
