My husband and I stopped at a local jewelers last week and I fell in love with the Simon G settings, the halo setting in particular. I was told that the 18kt white gold setting was $4,700.00. I thought that was a bit high for this particular setting so I did my own on-line search and found the exact same setting in 18kt wg for considerably less ($1,320) at Robbins Bros. This was the only on-line site that posted prices. Other on-line vendors said to "call for pricing".

I expected the jeweler to be higher in price, but 356 % over what I found on-line? Is that ridiculous or are these price differences to be expected and how do I know I am getting the best price and service?

I''ve found that what you''ve discovered is quite common. It happened to me as well. When I was looking for my setting, I found it at one store and was quoted $2,500. I called around to different vendors and found it for $4,750 - if I remember correctly - and I eventually bought it from our jeweler for $2,250. If you would really like this setting it may be worth your while to call for pricing to inquire as to where you can get the best deal. Try starting with the Simon G website and searching for vendors in your area or vendors that may interest you out of state, for example.

When inquiring, make sure to ask them all the same questions re: quality etc and compare your notes. I found this to be quite helpful as it made it apparent easily as to where I should purchase my setting.

I hope that this helps and that you get your dream setting for the best price possible! It is beautiful!

Unfortunately it is rather common...
