I will be getting a 3 carat radiant square cut engagement ring of F color. I have chosen to have two matching trapezoids on the side at 1/2 carat on each side.
What would be the best angle to have these side stones setted?
Also how high should the stones be set? Personally I do not like rings that are set high such as in cathedral settings. I am still undecided with the style of setting, but I am leaning towards an X-prong, truffle setting, or hugs and kisses.

About deciding on XX degrees: it is assumed that the position of the 'sides' should suggest depth: this being achieved by tilting (10-20 degrees or less) the sides so that the tables of the three stones do not make a continuous sourface (it seems that the fabled 'surface of brilliance' should not flat at its best). A more obvious concern is that there should be no gap (visible from above) beteween the stones. The best way to decide which of these criteria matter for you is to see some rings from various positions and see, for example, how the position of the stones related to the look face op or sideways... and such. Maybe
WWW (look for the breathless line) , WWW , WWW , would help with their descriptions of ring technicals. The respective angles depend on the size and shape of the stones and the height of the mounting. As a rule, the bigger the sides (relative to center), the lower the setting then the harder is to avoid creating a gap between stones. Hope this helps too.

AnA,

Thanks for responding. I'm not sure I understand everything that you have mentioned.

What does this mean? Maybe WWW (look for the breathless line) , WWW , WWW , would help with their descriptions of ring technicals. What is the breathless line?

OUps... there should be links behind the 'WWW's to shops with custon-made three-stone rings which use slightly different angles for the side stones, etc... There are a lot of choices, not necessarily all traps with radinats, but these, I hoped, would give you an idea how the size, position and shape of sides determine their position on the ring. The sites were: www.jewelryexpert.com (there are some simple 3 stone rings called 'Breathless' which are good inspiration, especially in the side photos), www.artofplatinum.com (great rings, a few 3 stone, uncommon craftmanship), and www.diamondsbylauren.com (the owner also posts here)... If the links did not work (they do for me) you can always cut & paste these links.
