Hey! I have seen so many photos of big beautiful old stones but was wondering if any PSers had rings with smaller ones?

I'm thinking like, .75 ct or smaller... Just want to see what the facets end up looking like.

At that size, do you think an old cut would even look different, or should I just get a MRB?

I have a size 5 finger, maybe 4.75, and I've tried on large rings but they don't really suit my personality or lifestyle. I've tried on a ring that was .3 ct and fell in love with how petite it was, and my friend has a .5 that looks great, but I've never seen a smaller old cut. So bring them out!

Thanks,

Snuffles

I own a lot of jewelry with those small old cuts - .75 down to .25

I won't post pictures because my macro photography skills are awful, but I wanted to tell you that these small gems are gorgeous. and they look particularly great in dainty filigree rings.

If this is the look you are going for, these small diamonds look great, satisfying to the eye. Many, myself included, often prefer the old cuts for their chunky flower-like patterns, which can be seen also in the smaller stones.

Main thing is to make sure they are well-cut and the color and clarity you desire. There are a lot of duds out there. There are quite a few regular posters here who have excellent expertise more than myself re: these diamonds. Happy hunting!

I absolutely agree.
And I too really struggle to take decent pics, but I'll post an iphone shot quickly.
I really prefer old cuts both large and small. I have several family stones that I reset over the years and I have no grading for anything under 1ct. But here's a pic of what I think is approx .60....I had it put in a bezel years ago, and even though I think the setting is a little clunky, the stone is very pretty to me and I see the chunky facets w/o a loupe. sorry it's a dark shot, but you get an idea of the facet pattern...it's very bright IRL.

Harpertoo, your bezel set pendant is beautiful.... hopefully single stone gets back to me with more information on their smaller stones....? I really want to see them in person!

Should I search for a Setting vs. Diamond first? This is so complicated!

I have a .5 bezeled in a pendant that has the most perfect faceting ever, and even though it's small, it's mighty.

I'll bet SS will have some amazing settings along with stones!
I'd start browsing settings to get an idea ~ unless you already know. Of course there is nothing like getting a setting on your finger to know what you really want.

*I really want to pay a visit to SS! I thought it might be a convenient detour on our Spring trip to Palm Springs, but oddly my husband booked a direct flight this time...we always spend a day in LA, but not this time : (
it's like he knew......

oh and athenaworth - your stone looks fabulous!!!

I LOVE THIS. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

it is so perfect. :appl:

how much should i expect to pay for a stone like yours, athenaworth? it is literally what i want hahaha, in a simple yellow gold setting. dream setting would be something like mark morrell's torchiere but in yellow gold and not as expensive.... if anyone knows of any look-alikes, let me know!

I have a .51ct OEC. It's currently awaiting a new five stone home (have all five stones assembled), but it used to be in this setting.

And here are the stones loose; still deciding and saving up setting money.

Logan, those diamonds are stunning -- hope to see pictures of your 5-stone soon! What's the carat weight on the smaller stones on the edges, by the way? are they all .5?
