I am helping a friend of mine to source an engagement ring for his soon to be fiancé. She spotted my 3 stone OEC and has told him that she wants an OEC not a MRB hence him asking for my help.

Now the thing is, she a thoroughly modern girl and doesn't have anything in antique style jewelry so neither an ornate antique setting nor a blingy halo are going to work for her.

So, Pricescopers, I need your help with finding some setting ideas which will complement an OEC but not look too antique in style.

She "quite" likes this one by LAD:

We haven't got a stone yet - I want to make sure we can get a setting that would suit an OEC and meet her modern tastes before we head down the path of sourcing the perfect centre stone which would, I think be around 1.5 cts.

Can you please post some pics of your settings here so I can run them by him to get some feedback?

Thank you in advance.

=)

These are not mine, but will give you an idea of how this style looks. TBH I feel the same as your friend - modern tastes, but something like this just speaks to me!

There are a few in here. Specifically, the one june rose posted.

This one is great to see, because its a smaller size. Alot of the others in this 'style' are quite a bit larger than what youre looking.

Valmanin's OEC in that setting is one of my all time favorites!

Perhaps your friend might also like the Victoria by Erika Winters/JBG: http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/erika-winters-bridal/victoria-solitaire-engagement-ring-setting.html#.VLcSvd6vt-U . Another good one is the Grace: http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/erika-winters-bridal/grace-solitaire-engagement-ring.html#.VLcTCd6vt-U . Both are very modern takes on historical designs…kind of like your friend -- a modern girl with an old stone. 8)

That said, I "fourth" the suggestion for Valmanin's ring! ;)) (I have it in platinum, with a smaller stone but also an OEC)

Valmanin's setting is also one one my favorites on Pricescope. I also love Missy's setting but her's is an antique setting. From the description of the girl who will be wearing the ring, I would choose Valmanin's setting.

Thanks everyone - very helpful.

I think she likes the shoulders on the band to meet the basket for added security and also the diamond detail in the basket is lovely. Plain band on solitaire with diamonds for her wedding band would appeal to her I think.

So there are some options in your suggestions for sure.

this one is platinum and under $1300. Very vintage looking for an OEC. Love the 6 prongs and knife edge in person is very delicate.

Similar with a slight sub halo effect:

Oops, sorry not "modern"...vintage...didn't read the whole post. Good luck with your friend's search.
I'm sure they can get the first setting without the pave on the band...a plain knife edge band.

here are some plain solitaires but IMO they don't compare to the style of the basket on the first setting:

You didn't mention his budget. Gabrielny makes quality settings at a very reasonable price.
