I also have (had?) a lovely spinel pair that I made matching rings with my best friend with.

Another lavender/purple spinel specimen arrived this morning:


The interesting thing about this specimen is that the spinel has crystallised as rhombic dodecahedra instead of the far more common octahedra. Maybe not particularly gemmy but interesting from a crystallographic point of view.
