Hi folks, are there any Cathy Waterman lovers here? I hadn't found too much mention of her work in PS threads.

I was coveting some of her work on ylang and was curious if anyone collected her pieces. If so, please do post some photos? Any input on the craftsmanship of the pieces would be greatly appreciated! Thanks kindly.

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

LOVE her work!
I posted this a while back-
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/cathy-waterman-look.197461/

but as you can see, not too much action on that thread.

I originally wanted to replicate one of her settings but then I realized the rings that I especially loved of hers were mostly with stones much larger than I would be working with and I found some on pinterest that were with smaller stones and they fell flat - for me anyway. I still would love an eternity band in her style of work-just so beautiful and unique!

Looking forward to any input here, as I have never seen her work in real life....

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

Me too artdecolover71!! Very unique! I love her eternity bands, especially the wide ones. The organic aesthetic of her work really sings to me!

Barneys uptown here carries some of her pieces - so I will pop over, hopefully this week, to see if they have any of the wide bands with openwork for me to play with.

BTW, there's a vintage listing on etsy that looks much like her PT continuous four petal band, it's uncanny! (Just sayin', in case it was one of the CW styles you had interest in. ;)) )

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

Is it Katezsabone on etsy? Her work is definitely reminding me of several CW styles! Gorgeous. There's a few pieces I LOVE on her esty store. Eternity's, rose cuts, oval stone with tiny bezel side stones, yummy! if that is not who you meant, can you post a link?

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

Oh I will have to check out katezsabone's shoppe now... lol

Here's the listing:

This is the CW continous four petal band (2nd one in between the yummy highK YG gold bands) (I lifted the photo off Ylang23.com - their website allows you to magnify it for detail much better) ($5+K)

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

I don't have any, but I also am a huge fan.In fact I have a whole folder saved of just her settings. I guess I just haven't been able to justify the huge expense to buy one. I also have thought of trying to replicate one of her settings- I have a 3 ct. pink tourmaline that I think would work well in one like this.

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

I also like a lot of her pieces. I would only buy second hand due to the high prices, though.

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

I had not seen her pieces before count me in as a fan!!! I love the nature theme and organic look

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

Hey ladies :wavey: thanks for so much for your input.

Love that setting, pinkjewel. Pink tourm would look outstanding in it.

I totally agree, diamondseeker2006; she is definitely *quite* spendy. ::)

Really love the whole nature-Tree-of-Life thing she has going as well, Acinom. It's refreshing to see designers doing different things with metal -- they are little works of art!

I reload this page in my browser every other day - hoping the prices in the catalogue will change... (just jokes)

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

Pink jewel- that was the original CW setting I wanted to replicate but when I saw something similar in a 1.5 carat, it didn't have the same effect on me. You should totally have that big stone set into something similar! Those etsy designers might b a great option?

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

This setting is a bit similar - (with a bezel, less leaves etc)- from the etsy seller artdecolover71 mentioned earlier: kateszabone.

Her etsy has a custom orders section but not sure if she works with customer's stones.

(The listing I posted earlier in the thread is just a one-off vintage piece that seller has in stock. Don't think she does bespoke.)

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

Another one here who absolutely loves Cathy Waterman's pieces, but sadly does not own any. I've seen a couple of her pieces come up on ebay, and at JBG. I am thinking pre-loved might be the way to go one day...

I was also looking at Kate Szabone when recently shopping for an e-ring. Megan Thorne is another with that gorgeous "organic" feel to her stuff that I was really admiring.

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman?

I love her work, but I don't have any either.

I love that setting.

Re: Show Me Your Cathy Waterman et al

I really should rename this topic to: Show me your Cathy Waterman et al (any Nature Inspired Motifs)? =) But I have no idea how to change the topic name...

Megan Thorne's pieces are gorgeous, thanks for pointing her out Evangeline. I love hi K gold and interesting textures in the metal.

I snagged this little diamond band yesterday on a retired LV bag swap. It's 18K, not 22K but it's quite weighty - 10gs, which shocked me since there is so much openwork. It'll have to slake my CW-esque design thirst for the time being. :))

very pretty!!!!
I don't know if you follow David Klass Jewelry on Facebook, but he's having a design contest for an eternity band. I entered it and my entry was definitely inspired by Cathy Waterman-although not a copy of anything she's done at all. It's alternating highly carved pansies with centered OEC diamonds and pansy leaves (also with OECs). I was trying to design something different than anything I'd seen and yet capture that nature inspired look. I would love if we could have designed it to be in high carat gold-but that wasn't within the contest parameters.
Here's my rough sketch.
