So Ladies and Gents,

What lives in your neighbourhood?

This little guy was out behind my apartment about an hour ago.
He looks way too skinny to survive the winter though, I think he left his mom too early.

(Little critters count just as much as big critters, so show me your small wildlife too)

Wow! He''s actually really cute

Nothing but pigeons in my neck of the woods, I''m afraid. My parents, though, I once counted 32 deer in a 3/4-mile stretch. They wind up taking care of lots of migratory birds, too - they slam into windows or get hurt in the reservoir right nearby, or the cat brings them in

We get lots of these little guys. Some are quite friendly. This one took the fruit from my hands.

ETA: sorry about the big picture!

(what is it?)

It is a brush tailed possum. We have soooo many of these in our area. Unfortunately they poop everywhere, run on our (metal) roof at night and make very scary fighting/mating noises (worse than cats).

OMG, we have possums here in Florida and they are no where near as cute as that little guy!

Holy cow, I want possums in my yard!

Though my kitties would freak out. But omg, he''s so cute!

That doesn''t look like a possum from the US...ours are ugly! (I think)..

Monkey - you only want those possums. VS the below. Which yes we do have. Along with Armadillos, squirrels, and lots of birds. At my grandparents (where we are a lot as well) there are hawks, eagles, foxes, owls, snakes, turkeys, raccoons, squirrels, deer, etc etc. I''ll try to get some pics to show you.

Ok, that possum is scary.

Yeah, I live in Australia, the possums here are cute! We have also found a frog in our backyard once, and we get kookaurras sometimes.

what''s a kookamadoodle Bobbin?

Oh my goodness! Look at that baby bear! And the adorable possum!

We have a lot of deer, foxes, kitties, black squirrels, and a lot of birds in our backyard. Our house backs up to a Red-winged blackbird preserve, so we get a lot of those guys, as well as many other beautiful birds I can''t identify.

I have pictures of our backyard kitty somewhere, but I can''t find them. She''s a beautiful Calico who wanders around the neighborhood.

We have lots of kitties in our area.

And by kitties I mean bobcats and mountain lions!

back home we have two cats that routinely visit the house. sometimes we see bunnies, occasionally we see deer, and very rarely squirrels. a few months ago a skunk we saw a skunk a few times, and then a few weeks after that a monstrous raccoon would come eat the left over cat food we left outside, so we had to stop leaving it out for them
5.gif
we also have some pesky muskrats who just won''t leave us alone!

a few years ago we had a fox try to take some of our fryers (big fat chickens,) but the cat chased it away

it did get one though

we get lots of birds; turkey vultures, barn swallows, lots of different finches, hummingbirds, cranes, orioles, and one other one that I don''t think we ever figured out what it was... really pretty white bird, who dive bombed the pond to eat frogs and fish, lol, kind of funny to watch.

LOL, a kookaburra (oops spelt it wrong in the other post) is a kingfisher with a call that sounds like a laugh.

Not much here, but parking lots on 3 sides of the condo, and a road in front.

This is icky, but you asked for what lives in your neighborhood and this guy, well, did! We have several unoccupied/boarded up houses in our neighborhood that have apparently become overrun with bat colonies. So although I don't have any good outdoor pictures of the creepy bats or any other fun wildlife, one stray bat managed to find its way into my apartment (have NO IDEA how, we were gone for 6 days) and drowned himself in my toilet!

And I swear the toilet was not that filthy, but the bat apparently must have ahem, pooped prior to drowning or otherwise decayed while sitting in the still water!

Poor batty

Here are some pics I took a while ago of the Rainbow Lorikeets that like to hang out in the trees out front of my home.

This day, the tree was full of 7 or more of ''em! But I couldn''t get a great shot of more than one at a time..

...

and wow..yeah you guys have UGLY possums, lol!

Although, admittedly ours are cute they are still often pests, as bobbin described.

I''ll try to get pics up later this evening, but we have Raccoons,Opossums,Foxes,Coyotes,Deer,And Beavers for mammals in our yard. We also have a LOT of birds with some of the more interesting being Coopers Hawk,Great Horned Owl, Great Blue Heron, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks. Yeah we are in the country! 7 acres in a very rural setting of heavy woods and a creek.
