So I'm still currently looking for a ring that fits my budget and would love to see the types of rings that people got in this price range. Just want to know what types of rings people are buying on this kind of budget.

Mine was way under $5k. My husband had a budget of $5k and was planning on getting a 1 carat princess cut and this setting but he ended up liking this particular diamond better which is a 3/4 carat unique cut called a Classica.

This came in just at $3k. This same setting is going for double that now because white gold prices are higher so, today this would be close to $5k.

Rings bought in the last 6 months would be the only comparable examples for you. You'd be looking at under a carat (maybe .75-.80 cts.) depending on the kind of setting you choose. You can browse through the most recent pages of this thread:

Plain settings can be $350-1000 and then the rest can go toward the diamond. That is what we usually recommend, spending the majority of the budget on the diamond now and the setting can always be changed later. Or a diamond wedding band can be beautiful with a simple solitaire, too.

Also, I'd recommend looking at pre-owned. Look on Dover Jewelry. There are quite a few plat rings under 5k with all diamonds, or sapphires or rubies. Just an idea..............

JbEG is also a good place to look for preloved beauties!!

My ering total was a little over $3000 this past summer. The main diamond (1.1 ct OEC SI1L/M) was pulled from an ebay 3 stone ring. The platinum setting was made new at http://antiqueengagementrings.com

The platinum band was under $250 on ebay.

It sparkles like crazy and gets so much attention. It is much clearer in person. I am so glad i had it pulled from the three stone, it looks so much larger and "happier" there. I do need to take better pics, but this is what i have on the computer now.

I am totally for pre owned. I followed the usual PS rules, look for good return policy and good ratings. I ended up going with an estate jeweler from FL on ebay. So it had a main store I could look up. I also offered lower than listed. I watched things get listed over and over again and then asked. It was listed as a 1 ct but they also listed measurements. Knowing old cuts are deeper, I found one that measured closest to 6.5mm.

Good luck!

Wow, gorgeous!!!

This is a 1ct L/M VVS2 OEC that we purchased from a private seller... $900 if you can believe it! The setting was $250 from Abazias.
The rose gold 7 stone that is next to it was made for me for $1100.

This is my wedding set. The center stone is a .70 ct D SI1 princess that was around $2500- $3000 or so. The setting was $1000 at a local jewelry store. The band was custom made for me from the same store for about $1000.

Narwal - gorgeous!!! Tuckins - love your rose gold!

Have you been to oakgems.com as well? They have a nice selection of items in all price ranges. A PS'er has also purchased from Diamonddr on eBay and got a gorgeous anniversary band for approx $1300-$1500, I recall.

Good luck!

My ER came in at between $3500.00 and $4000.00

It's a .75 princess SI2(eye clean, two inclusion) G. The stone was bought separately from the setting which has 4 aprox. .06 round side stones (SI1 F-G)

You can definitely find something you will love for under $5k!

$5k is a healthy budget.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can often get "already put together" rings (ie things already set, try looking through Diamonds By Lauren's site), vintage rings, estate pieces, etc at a lower cost per ct than you can by starting from scratch and getting a center stone, elaborate setting, etc separately. You obviously can't be as picky but if you're flexible you can find some great deals out there.

Do you have certain criteria you're looking for in terms of stone shape, cut, color, etc?

I recently got this GIA excellent K SI2 .70 and a 14k wg setting from ebay, total cost about 1800.

Frankie, IDJ sells a lot of rings that we wouldn't recommend on PS, but they are wonderful to show or call in great stones when people identify themselves as PS members. That diamond likely is not GIA certified judging from the price.

I was going to say something about that solitaire by IDJ, it looks awfully yellow to be an H.

Ditto, it looks a lot like my OEC, which is L/M.

and I really like warmer stones too! I feel like I can see inclusions in the picture as well, how can it possibly be VS2?

So I contacted ID jewelry about that ring, and got a response back that since I was from pricescope I would need to speak to their pricescope department?
