"After 16 years my bf is going to buy me an anniversary ring!"
Yes, you read correctly - 16 years and we aren't married...but that's neither here nor there...
2.gif

I need some help. Here is the situation - I totally understand people saying - geesh, that long and no ring - but then again, I have been in college since I graduated high school (I am 33) and tuition with books and loans that are going to be coming up soon (I expect to finish my dissertation by December this year), and we share bank accounts - I have had to buy a laptop and get a windshield ($1000) for my Land Rover, so there have been expenses, etc. I guess circumstances and timing have been off. I am a patient person though.
20.gif
Sure I've openly complained about it...that's the past, here's the present (man, I sure can ramble on!).

So - I can't see spending more than $5,000, even though I would like to see a chunk of rock on my finger, so my budget would probably be no more than $5,000 period... If I could find something that made me swoon at $300, I would also take that, but I've looked and haven't run into that situation! I am a teacher and lost my job up in northern California because of a pink slip and non re-election from my principal (I still hate that woman) and will be returning to my old school district from a leave of absence this upcoming school year in which I am guaranteed some spot in southern California.

Can you please help me with some ideas????

I ABSOLUTELY LURVE PurrfectPear's Vatche Alexa setting (see attached pic - I hope you don't mind purrfectpear) and I LURVE GOG's new cushion, but I just can't see myself spending close to $2,000 for a setting, even though that is the setting I have always kept in my mind. I would like to have a quality diamond in it that is for sure, but I am not too opposed to having colored stones in it. I haven't seen the Vatche setting IRL, and would need to do that before making any decisions. And ever since I saw arjunajane's downgrade post with that beautiful diamond, I can't take my mind off of that. I'm not sure if that setting and that type of diamond would go well together. That GOG diamond looks great in a simple setting though because it is so stunning. I love warm stones too, so that kind of helps.

I seem to like square settings/stones moreso than round settings/stones. I don't like the classic solitaire ring look for my fat chubby finger. I think I like less elaborate designs. I also looked at 1001smiles' Verragio setting and thought that was beautiful too even though it is round and very sparkly. I think I like the Verragio and Vatche profiles a lot.

I guess I am flexible - if it catches my eye.

So, if you have some time to help me, that would be fabulous. I am not getting the ring RIGHT NOW - but just having my options open. My bf is the type of guy that would just walk into Tiffany's with me and get something premade, but I kind of wanted to get it assembled to my specs.

Thanks in advance!

I also saw this ring 2 years ago from a UK eBay seller and was in contact with him. This ring is a pink tourmaline. I asked him if it could be made with rose gold and he said yes. I think this ring would be in my price range. I love this ring too. I love pink. I guess you can see that I like angles as opposed to round curvy.

ETA - Geesh, that pic is huge!!!

Yes, up to $5,000.

i''m sorry if i sound harsh or anything but you don''t want to be engaged or married because you have loans and tuition and books to pay for but then you want to spend up to 5,000 for an anniversary ring?! not even an engagement ring?!!!!!! weird. sorry

Hi, um, let''s see here...

I don''t really want to get married and neither does he and it has nothing to do with my schooling - plus I won''t have to start paying for my loans for about a year. Marriage isn''t for everybody. We have been together, faithfully on both ends as far as I know, and neither of us want to marry. Just a personal choice.

I did request an anniversary ring last month, our 16 year anniversary, because I wanted to have a symbol of our relationship in ring form, to celebrate the 16 years we''ve been together. How is that weird?

Also, I said up to $5,000 - if even, and I also said $300 if I found the right ring that made me happy. $5,000 is pushing it but I think that if I got the Vatche setting and a GOG cushion, it would be pushing that limit but doable.

I guess I should have left my current situation out of the request to help me find a 16 year anniversary ring.

I really don''t think it''s our place to judge Elegant on her or her BF''s choices on marriage or how to spend their money. If they are happy, that''s what counts.

Elegant, after 16 years you definitely deserve a beautiful ring and I hope you find one you completely fall in love with!

Would you consider a vintage ring? Jewels by erica grace has a few that are within your budget.

Good luck!

You could maybe contact some vendors about making a similar setting but with melee white sapphires instead of diamonds or without diamonds at all?

I'm a big fan of colored stones as well. If you love pink, I would suggest pink sapphires, pink spinels, or pink garnets. They are all hard enough to withstand regular wear. And gorgeous in their own right of course!

I adore this pink sapphire, it has a great vintage feel to it and such a lovely yummy pink! And it's untreated and from ceylon, which makes it a collectable.
Pink sapphire

Elegant not to be rude, but in your first post you say that you've openly complained about your situation but are patient, and then in your defense you say that neither of you really want to get married. It is a bit confusing to the lay person....

Anyhow, I hope you get the anniversary ring of your dreams.

Boy this is sure a gorgeous ring! regardless of what you want to call it, Totally a dazzler!

I love both rings, but that pink tourmaline ring is stunning! And it would take you away from something that looks too engagement-y since this is an anniversary ring.

My first thought was also Erica Grace, there are some great pieces there within the budget!

After 16 years Lilac, I agree, I deserve a beautiful ring! Thank you!

I would definitely consider vintage rings and thank you for the referral VRBeauty! I actually visited her site and saw some rings I was interested in. Thanks!

MakingTheGrade, that pink sapphire is gorgeous - I like the color - and I like the square cushion shape too, thank you.

SeaStar, I am sorry - I didn''t realize how confusing my post was? I''ve complained to him about not getting a ring, not about pressuring him to get married. I want a ring, not the marriage. I sincerely doubt that I will get THE anniversary ring of my dreams for under $5,000, but thanks for the well wishes!

We actually have a good cushion of money saved so that this wouldn''t break us. I am trying to be considerate of our situation, but seriously, I have been waiting a LONG time. I don''t think I am being selfish or anything. Geesh.

Don't think OP financial priorities or progatives are really your business.

Anyways, that is soooo exciting! have you looked at the possibility of an antique piece? I know that Erica Grace Jewels has some GORGEOUS options. Just an idea.

One of my favs....

Thanks iwannaprettyone! I am very excited about it! It's like man...finally! I saw that ring last night and thought it was gorgeous too! I like that it looks squarish and it isn't too blingy - I think it is beautiful. Thanks for your help.

Hi NewENglandLady,
I was also thinking about the engagement-y look, but I love that antique Vatche look - does that ring look too much like an engagement ring? I guess I am looking at it and being blind to the whole engagement ring look - I''m not too concerned about that though, just as long as I like the ring.

I''m also wondering about a wide anniversary diamond band....

Oooh I love the ring iwannaprettyone posted - that''s a GORGEOUS ring!

I really like it and it has been on my mind for quite some time.
I am concerned about the tourmaline because I will wear the ring every single day and hope it is durable enough to withstand me smacking it around here and there...

How bout like MTG suggested. go with Pink Sapphire or Spinel? or do you want a different colored gemstone if you should choose to go that route?

How bout the GOG new signature chunky cushion with a custom setting no diamonds? with a bit of engravings? maybe it''ll drive the price down a bit? not sure if you like the contemporary feel like the tourmaline step cut ring you posted, or a vintage feel?

something like this? plain shank, halo for a cushion instead? and of course making it more geometric to follow the cushion line

It sounds like art deco looks are up your alley. Have you looked at the Beverly K stuff? The photos are all flash embedded, so I can''t save and upload but there are some nice styles over there.

I think you should go for a nice pink coloured stone in a really fantastic, detailed setting. This means you''d have more to spend on the setting you want and it won''t nessesarly look like an engagment ring. Good luck.

Elegant, good for you! Instead of something engagmenty looking, I'd go for a big fat eternity band, personally. Either diamonds or colored stones and diamonds. How absolutely lovely. Congratulations :) 16 years isn't anything to snort at, a lot of marriages now don't last that long.. so.. good for you. :)

An eternity band is a great option. Several PS'ers have created eternity and semi-eternity bands that are worthy of a 16-year commitment, such as:

The Sally and the Nightingale: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/introducing-the-nightingale-by-bgd.119344/

AmberGretchen's tsavorite and diamond band: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/its-here-ags-tsavorite-diamond-rhr.103938/

D&T's cup-shaped eternity band: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/helps-please.1189/

(but personally, I'd pounce on one of the ericagrace rings. I'm not sure why half of the world's beautiful rings should be off limits to single people just because some people associate any ring with a diamond centerstone -- other than a "C" ring of course

with engangements and weddings.)

Hi Elegant, Welcome to PS!!!

I agree with the other posts and you deserve a GREAT 16th anniversary ring. I am kind of in the middle, I like to have a serious relationship but getting married is really making me nervous.
32.gif
But BF (now FI) gave me an ultimatum last yr, he said "if you want me to stay in your life, it''s marriage or nothing at all".
32.gif
So, I caved in, we''re engaged last March and will get marry next yr. Its true that marriage is not for everyone but I don''t want to lose him either, kwim. I''m glad you find someone on the same page as you.

Congrats on the 16th anniversary!!! I hope you find a ring that is TDF!!!!

Wow, thanks so much for these great ideas.

D&T - I really like your ideas. I am not really into the split shank - I think the thinner it is for my finger, the better. I still want something that looks delicate too. In regards to the color, I really want a diamond, but I do like the pinks and I also really like sapphires - blue one, and rectangular/emerald cut. I really do like your idea about the GOG cushion and a custom setting with no side stones. Thank you so much for trying to help me!

SanDiegoLady - Thanks for your words of encouragement. I was thinking about a nice eternity band as well, but it has a wedding ring feel to it...sort of. I do like the look of thin delicate sparkly eternity bands though...nothing too flashy, but nice.

litebrite - I have actually always loved art deco. You hit the nail on the head.

4ever - Yeah, I am 50/50 on whether I want a pink stone, and depending on the stone it should be cheaper than a diamond...thanks!

VRBeauty - I agree, they are beautiful...but like you said, I am all over having something with a diamond center stone...I do like the one that is posted above, that is for sure.

joelly - Good luck with the marriage thing! I guess we are opposed to it for a number of reasons - our parents'' marriages did NOT work out and we figure, if it ain''t broke... I also hope I find a ring that is TDF too! Thanks!

loriken214 - Hi, thanks! I have been trying to find his info in my email account. He emailed me pics of this pink tourmaline one, but the original one he had up at auction was much lighter pink, and I liked that one more. I think this one was a custom made ring with a stronger pink color. When I find it I will post it!

Also, I was thinking...yes, I am stuck on this setting - an 18kt yellow gold Vatche Alexa with a GOG cushion? The yellow gold should look nice with the color of a warmer stone, wouldn''t you think?
