Hi All,
I''ve been searching for an ideal cut diamond G - VS2, but wish the size could be a little bigger, knowing the budget we have I am debating to sacrifice color and clarity for a larger stone. Can you please suggest what I should do?? I love the look of the VS and how it sparkles, but with an ideal cut RB stone, can I sacrifice color/calrity for it to still look amazing? If so, please tell me what to look for.

Thank you so much PS family!!!

You could do down some, I have a I color and a eye clean SI2, but everyone has different things that bother them, I am OK with mine, even though I wish it was a VS2, I think I would like it more mind clean.

Yes you certainly can lower both colour and clarity without visual sacrifice if the cut is great and the diamond eyeclean. I would broaden your search to include H colour, possibly I also and SI1 clarity to see what comes up, if you would like any help searching give us your budget for the stone and other requirements and we can hunt for you.

As long as you stay with an ideal cut, you should be able to move down to an H SI2 and still find a gorgeous diamond. You will definitely notice and love the bigger size, but probably not even notice the difference in color and clarity.

Thank you so much to all, I would love to see an G or H SI1 just to compare.
Lorelei - If you can post a link to some stones, I would love to check them out! Thank you!!

So what is your budget?

I would be glad to, how much do you have to spend?

Almost all the PS rings along with their specs are posted in the e-ring eye candy thread at the top of Show Me The Ring forum. There are also some threads in FAQ, like the I color thread I color. Always try the Search, too. ;-) But I through K got more individualized attention.

...And when Search bombs, lol try "H color site:pricescope.com" in Google.

Our budget is $25k with a setting. Thank you so much all! I''ll do some researching too!

I wish I had sacrificed a little more, I believe mine is VVS1 (I''m a bad PS''er and cannot remember!!), with a small white feather next to a prong. I wish I had a bigger stone!!

Then you are probably looking at larger diamonds. VS1 & VS2 might be visible, SI1 & SI2 may not be eyeclean, and larger diamonds show more tint.

SI1 vs. SI2 comments

With so large a stone I would go H SI1 eyeclean.

+1 I might even go down to an I/J color. It all depends on your color sensitivity. Personally, I would go with what is eye clean to you and that could be at VS2 or SI1.

Well, you''re asking for opinions, so here''s mine. I have an AGS-0 2.36 J/SI2 RB that I LOOOOVE! It was an upgrade from my original stone, an AGS-0 1.53 G/VS2. (I bought that diamond when I was a nervous newbie and needed to be in the *safe* zone!)

I just recently sent the diamond to Richard Sherwood, an independent appraiser who posts here, and he remarked on what a beautiful and totally eyeclean diamond it is. Not ALL SI stones are eye-clean, of course... but they ARE out there (even SI2s), and they are worth looking for. IMHO, dropping color and clarity (while never compromising on CUT) is a GREAT way to maximize the budget... even in "larger" stones.

Oh, forgot to add... personally, I don't use the word "sacrifice" when I'm talking about something like balancing the 4 Cs in diamond buying. IMHO, there's really no "sacrifice" in buying and owning an expensive luxury item like a diamond. I prefer the word "compromise"!

Lynn B, Oh my LORDIE! You have my dream stone and setting! I actually just received a Memoire Petite Prong setting (on loaner) from the wonderful Bill Pearlman! He sent it to me to check out over the weekend! AND it looks like your setting! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

So now for the questions, when you say "eye clean" can you please let me know what that means? I assumed it meant no inclusions on the table, or does it mean nothing to be seen with the naked eye. Please let me know.

Also, the cut, GIA ex, ex, ex.. is that considered and excellent cut? Should I know something else that makes it excellent.
I live in NJ, outside of NYC, if there is any reliable/reputable recommended source for stones, please let me know.
Many thanks!!

Your entire ring (stone and setting) are to die for , beyond beautiful!!!! (Im drooling with my mouth open :) no joke!)

I started out wanting a G VS2 diamond as well, but I also wanted a certain carat weight. In the end I compromised and went down to an I, SI2. The GIA graded stone has an excellent cut, as verified by the wonderful PS'ers here and my appraiser. So, it sparkles and dances and does all those great things diamonds should do. :) Also, it faces up white and is eye clean. I second that you can find eye clean SI2s out there, it just takes some time. I'm color sensitive and was happily surprised at how white my diamond is. I suggest looking at different color/clarity diamonds in a variety of lighting to see what you're comfortable with. Good luck! :)

Wanda,

Thanks for the compliments, I really appreciate it. My set was a fishtail pave custom job by Whiteflash. I say "was" because I am in the middle of a reset project. If you''ve missed all that
2.gif
, it''s because those small pave stones really aren''t recommended for cleaning in the ultrasonic and I felt like I could never get my center stone clean. So I am currently resetting my diamond in a simple solitaire setting that will be ultrasonic safe. Just something for you to think about. Maybe Memoire doesn''t discourage the ultrasonic, some brands/vendors say it is OK... but I did lose a stone once, and that was enough for me!

By the way, what is the head like on the Memoire setting? I''m a little bit of a prong fanatic, and I *think* I remember that the prongs on the Memoire were kinda bulky and square? Or am I mistaken about that? When I had my ring made, I was singing like a canary that I wanted the head to be integrated (not a peg head) and the prongs to be thin, rounded, delicate, fluid and swoopy! I thought that was critical for the whole design to really *work*. I was really thrilled, WF really nailed it.

Anyway, I digress! If you do a search for "eye clean" you will see that there can be a few variations on the definition. For me, it means not being able to see any inclusions with the naked eye (and 20/20 vision) at close scrutiny from all sides in good lighting!

All of my diamonds have been graded by AGS, I don''t have any experience with GIA personally. But some experts feel that AGS is just a little stricter and may have a slight edge over GIA''s grading.

You live near NYC? Really?! Well then -- get thee to Good Old Gold; Jon and staff will take good care of you and make finding a killer diamond a no-brainer! (Tell him you want something like mine! Really, he''ll know JUST what you mean!)

Personally, I don''t have the luxury of any PS vendors near enough to me to drive, so I had to buy online... but that''s even a no-risk proposition because if you don''t love it, you just send it back! BUT, going to GOG and playing with all their gorgeous stones and toys would be more fun for me than Disney World!!!

Lynn

Well I learned of GOG, so I will definetly have to give them a call and check them out! thank you so much!!

The Memoire head can be made a 4 prong or 6 prong. the one Bill sent me is 4-prong and its not to bulky, but I prefer delicate prongs..I thought maybe a classic 6-prong.. your thoughts?

Something about a solitaire, I love. I''m so torn between both settings!

I attached a pic of the Memoire setting, Bill sent it with a 2 ct. cz for me to envision!

If I had it to do over again I''d go with J SI 1or 2!

And btw, I have an H vs2 :)

Yes, but the one thing you shouldn''t sacrafice is cut. Get an SI stone. 99.9999% of the people that see your stone won''t notice the inclusions.

TL - Thank you so very much! Thank you everyone! You all have taught me so much!

Out of all the vendors listed, which one should I go to? WF or GOG.. I hear of them a lot on PS. Thanks!
