Hi Everyone. I'm about to have this 3 stone ring created, but before I do I need some final criticism, feedback, and/or approval from you guys! Here are the details:

Center stone
-1.7 ct
-G, VS2
-ex/ex/ex GIA
-HCA score: 1

Side stones
- .4 ct each
-F, VS2
-ex/ex/ex GIA
HCA score: 1

Setting/shank
platinum 1.8mm or 2mm

Price
$24,000

What do you think?!! Will this be too big/small for a 4.25 finger? Also, should I drop the side stone colors to a G to match the center, or is it ok that they're 1 color grade better?

Finally, she says she wants a super thin shank. Is 1.8mm thin enough you think? Thanks!

I am ok with a variance of up to 2 color grades for sides stones because they don't have to be an exact match. In your case, I wouldn't get the side stones in an F. I'd get a G or maybe even H. The size will probably be fine - I am a size 3.25 and wear a round halo with a 1.5 carat center stone. My ring is substantial on me, but not giant. The ring sounds pretty - do you have any pics? Sorry I can't be of more help, but I don't know much about price/value, so hopefully, others will chime in.

I think the sides would be fine, I have a H/I combo and can't see the difference. Sounds spectacular!

Thanks guys. I don't have any pics yet because I'm having it custom made.

Any more thoughts on sizes and the price? Also, would it be BETTER to get the F sides because they're colorless, or to go down to G to match?

Here is the GIA report for the center stone. What do you think? There seem to be a lot of clarity flaws (cloud, feather, pinpoint, indented natural). Given that it's VS2, do you think these won't be visible to the naked eye?

Re: Should I pull the trigger on this round 3 stone E ring?!

I would drop down to G or H for the sides, personally - smaller stones tend to face-up whiter than larger stones, all else being equal.

1.8 is more than thin enough, please don't go any thinner! There are durability concerns with overly thin shanks.

No flags on the report, but definitely at least have your SA vet the stone and confirm that it's clean to your specifications, whatever they are, before having a setting custom made for it. I strongly recommend having stones shipped out loose to see in-person prior to setting if at all possible.

No worries on size - those proportions will be beautiful if the ring is well-designed and well-made. I wear a size 4 and this is my old ring: 2ct center and 0.33 sides

Re: Should I pull the trigger on this round 3 stone E ring?!

Shoot this morning I ordered the G center and the F sides! I wanted to stick with the F sides because their cut was really nice and matched that of the center stone (all HCA of 1). My jeweler showed me an example of that arrangement and I couldn't see the difference in color so I said go for it and he ordered the stones. Hopefully there isn't a visible difference in the color : /

Worst case scenario, I can return them and buy G sides.

Thank you!

You are in nitpick-and-then-some territory wrt. F vs. G for the sides - really, don't spend another minute worrying about it! Especially since you saw the line-up in-person. We do like to nitpick on here, and I'm known for being one of the more pedantic PSers, but much of what we discuss - well, the vast, vast majority of consumers wouldn't even think to consider, let alone specify! ::)
